  • Chamois Final Step?

    Hi guys,

First off, I'm a long time Meguiar's user. I tried others (naively believing their claims), but I kept coming back to Meguiar's and now nothing else touches my car! Despite my long time use of Meguiar's, I still feel like a newbie, especially after reading these great posts.

My question: I've searched about "final steps" and "final buffing", but I haven't seen this mentioned specifically. After waxing (NXT TW2) and removing the wax with a MF cloth, I usually go over the car lightly with a clean chamois. I realize that over time people can pick up bad (or useless) habits and I was wondering if this is one of them.

Does anyone else use a chamois for a "last buffing"? All I read is chamois used for drying purposes.

    Thanks!!

I've never used a chamois for that purpose. My final wipe when waxing is always with a microfiber, lately it's been with Ultimate Wipes.

Its not bad to give a final wipe after detailing, though it would usually be with a Supreme Shine or Ultimate Wipe.

When you say "chamois" I assume you are talking a damp one correct? If so, couldn't this affect bonding and curing for the NXT?

If he's applying NXT and shortly thereafter going over it with a damp chamois, doesn't he run the risk of diminishing how the NXT cures on the paint.

Wow, I haven't heard of too many people using a genuine chamois anymore. I guess only the die hard fans.

However, I have never heard of anyone using a chamois to do a final wipe on a car. My understanding has always been that a chamois was used for drying purposes only.

I've only used dry chamois for this purpose. Seems like this is one of those bad habits...not sure where I picked this one up. When I never read about anyone else doing this, it made me question it.

Thanks for helping me out guys! I really appreciate your feedback!

I have never heard of this. (but what do I know) lol. I like using ultimate wipes for the final wipedown.
