  • Recommended RPM speed for each product

Is there a master list of the recommended RPM speed you should use for each product when using a PC? Or if anyone has recommendations per product, that would be cool too. Just wondering....

Re: Recommended RPM speed for each product

I only worry about 2 settings with the PC7424:
    1. 3 = applying wax
    2. 5 = removing swirls/scratches/defects

One can use setting 5 to remove wax (w/microfiber bonnet) but I prefer to remove it by hand.

      Something more than this?

Product, Pad and Speed settings for the Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher

It's really more simple than most people think, you basically need to use one of two general speed settings, a high speed for when you need the power to remove a little paint, the lower speed settings when you're just spreading a product out.

      5.0 Speed Setting
For removing below surface defects, things like swirls, scratches and etchings, you want a lot of power because you're trying to remove small particles of paint off the car so you want the 5.0 Speed Setting. So you would use the 5.0 speed setting for any compound, paint cleaner, cleaner/polish or cleaner/wax.

      3.0 to 4.0 Speed Setting
After the defects are removed and you're no longer trying to remove paint, then bump your speed down to the 3.0 to 4.0 speed setting to spread out pure polishes or finishing waxes.

      5.0 Speed Setting
If you plan on removing dried wax using a microfiber bonnet on a stiff clean, cutting pad to remove wax by machine then you bump the speed setting back up to th 5.0 Speed Setting as you need a stiff foam pad and more power.

Re: Recommended RPM speed for each product

Here is a link to a chart, however it does not list all of the newer products.

Product, Pad and Speed settings for the Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher

As DJJeffMills said though. Speed 3 for applying Waxes and Speed 5 for applying polishing compounds for defect removal is a pretty safe bet.
