I have a bunch of 100% polyester sash brushes that i use for rims. Might be a bit soft for really dirty rims, but i like em.

Edit: sometimes i'll wrap a rubberband around the bristles to stiffen them up a bit (same concept as the slide lock brush).

That is a small body brush that Mike is using.
Wouldn't a painter's brush be a brush for painting something?

No they're pretty gentle and inexpensive. Once it loses it's softness i toss it.

I have had good results with a soft tooth brush as well. The bent neck can be handy.

                    Re: Wheels

For wheels when a large, soft brush is too large, I use a tooth brush and a small kitchen brush (bristles 360 deg.; got it at Walmart). Works great on my Ford Ranger wheels ('96 & '98).
