Must-Have Supply List?

I'm about to pick up some things for detailing/paint correcting my car, can we start a "must have" list?





So far, I've got:

• Two 5 gal pails
• Grit Guard
• Mitt Scrub
• Swirl Finder
• Painters Tape
• Wheel well brushes
• Quick Connects

Let's exclude Meguiar's items, or make a seperate list for them. The reason for that is because I plan to just purchase those online all together. The other things I can get elsewhere like Home Depot or Pep Boys.

cheapo microfibers for cleaning door seals, under the hood, truck lid area

decent microfibers for paint only, if you are cleaning just your car, I would recommend atleast a dozen. Vroom from Target are good starter MF's.

Clay bar, and a decent lube.

if wanting a swirl finder, are you planning on doing paint correction??

Thats about it...

You might like some quick connects for your hose, and a third bucket for wheels.

Then some random brushes for getting in the wheelwells.

LOL, I see you got the mitt scrub listed. It's actually a paint grid that you can find at most paint stores but be sure to get a plastic one, the metal ones will chew up your mitt! I found my one gallon Wooster paint grid at Ace Hardware. Also get some rubber weather stripping to shim up the lip of your rinse bucket, otherwise the mitt scrub will fit a little loosely and you'll have to pinch it to the bucket as you scrub the mitt.

Grit Guards can be purchased from ADS, but they are not available in any major chain stores just yet. ADS seems to have the best prices for those right now.

Cheapest 5 gallon buckets are from Home Depot ($3). I marked one with a W for Wash, and the other with R for rinse. Once the two buckets have soap in them, it's sometimes hard to tell em apart. Of course the mitt scrub is a visual cue for your rinse bucket.

Buy a 3rd bucket (a two gallon from the 99 cent store) and dedicate it for your wheels and wheel wells. You don't want that crud mixing in with your rinse or wash buckets, even with the grit guards.

if you are doing paint correction, do you have ANYTHING at all for that process?

You can find some nice brass quick connects at Target for $5 a set. I have them and they work great.

Dont forget a shut-off to put behind the quick connects, and then ****** tape... mkes taking things on and off to do the flooding, rinsing, watering teh lawn, sprinklers, etc much easier.

Well if fitty is suggesting beer, then i'm suggesting Ibuprofen...to me detailing makes me ache when i'm done..and i'm only 28!

Dont forget a shut-off to put behind the quick connects, and then ****** tape... mkes taking things on and off to do the flooding, rinsing, watering teh lawn, sprinklers, etc much easier.

A good detail job takes at least 8 hours.

Any self respecting man, working in the summer's air, should (at the very least) be consuming two beers per hour.

At the end of the session, you will have consumed 16 beers. You'll have little need for Ibuprofen, if you follow my method.

Kevin Brown has his methods, I have mine. Lets see if CMA starts selling "3Fitty Kits".
