what does everyone use meguiar's finishing pad for?

i know lots of people use the polishing pad for multiple tasks. but there must be a great use for the finishing pad?

The finishing pad can be used for a lot. Mainly it is just making what ever you are using less aggressive. For me I use the finishing pad for wax, glazes, and paint cleaners on really clean cars that want a pure wax (aka Carnauba). However I have heard people having great success with 82 on a finishing pad.

      Hey,

I will use the W-9006 Finishing Pad with the:

Rotary buffer --- #80 Speed Glaze, #82 Swirl Free Polish, #9 Swirl Remover, #3 Machine Glaze.

With the PC---- #82, #9, #7, #81, plus all waxes and sealants.

      Cheers!

The finishing pad is used for non aggressive products, like Lt1Corvette said.. Mostly for pure polishes...

I use the finishing pad for NXT though!

          Hey,

          Just for clarification...

The Finishing pad is not used only for non-aggressive products. It can be used for other products as well. The problem comes from the means of which a product breaks down. Some products require a firmer/more dense pad. However, when used with a rotary, a W-9006 pad with #82 Swirl Free Polish does an excellent job!!! I also use the W-9006 with the PC for #82, #9 as well as the pure polishes and the Last Step Products.

Moreover, many of Meguiar's Cleaner/Waxes respond very well with the W-9006.

It all depends on the finish!!

Just out of curiousity, have you found 9 and 82 to work pretty similar on the rotary?

              Hey,

I have found that while both are similar in aggressiveness with the #82 being slightly more aggressive, the #82 tends to work a little better with the rotary, IMHO.

2hotford, i would think, most of the professional compounds, cleaners and polishes, would work better with rotary. i think thats what they were originally designed for? this doesn't mean you can't get good results with pc though. i tried #9 after #80, and was acually more pleased with the over all appearance of #80. i tried #82 a few years back but don't really remember the outcome.

from my experience or lack of, i think i would get better results with a pc.

                    Hey cheapthrills

I was responding to the question regarding their performance with the rotary.

No, not all products are designed to be used solely with the rotary. For example #83 DACP, #82, or #9 etc are all designed to be used with a rotary, DA, orbital or by hand. The products that are usually designated for rotary use only, are usually the ones that are fairly aggressive or have been designed to be used with a rotary in order for the diminishing abrasives to break down properly. Futher, I have in many many posts suggested to people to use certain products with the PC which can yield excellent results.

2hotford, your correct it does even state that on the instructions. but i used stuff by hand and never got the results i got using the pc. so i would only imagine that the rotary would give best results followed by pc. it seems the stronger or more abbrasive stuff is for rotary, the medium stuff could be both rotary and pc. and the finers stuff could be rotary/pc/hand. does this make any sense? it's just my fram of thought, wouldn't want to try diamond cut by hand.

ps. just recieved nxt and #16 today.

That's how I think of it... I think it's because the products specifically used for rotaries needs a lot of heat in order to be able to break the product down and work its wonders.. The PC and especially the hand method wouldn't be able to generate this heat and would make your effort worthless.

                          Hey,

Yep, you would not want to use Diamond Cut with the PC or especially by hand!! Trust me!!!

But generally, as I said, some products will require a rotary in order to break down the diminishing abrasives. Moreover, in experienced hands, a rotary can do amazing things!!

Tim, how do you like the PC rotary vs the Makita's and Dewalt?

                            Thanks,

                            John

                              Hey John,

                              Welcome to Meguiar's Online!!!

The PC in the picture is actually the 7424 DA polisher and not a rotary like the 2 Makitas and the Dewalt. I have not used the PC rotary, but if it built as well as the rest of their tools, it should be a good tool as well.
