  • Can you leave wax on for "too long"?

I just finished waxing my mothers car, in the garage, but now we have to go for about 2 hours and I don't have time to remove it.

There shouldn't be any harm in leaving it on for that long, especially considering it's garaged, yes?

What's the longest you can leave wax on for? Thanks

It won't hurt anything, if that's what you're asking. Only thing is it's probably going to be a bit of a booger to take off when you go back at it.

You pretty much could leave it on as long as you want and nothing bad will happen, it may be a tad bit easier just because it will be completely dry by that point. Mike Stoops (MikeInOrange) has told me about numerous times where he will put wax on his car and then go out for the entire day and not wipe it off until that night. You will be fine

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

        Which wax?

Collinite 476 and Meguiars M16 if you leave it on for too long it really is a pain to get off, especially if you put it on to thick

I used to see guys wax there car, then drive around all day with the wax on it then wipe it off. I could not imagine all the dust and dirt that was on the wax when they took it off

I have never used Collinite 476, but that is not necessarily true with M16 if you leave on too long it will be hard to get off. What makes M16 hard to get off is if you put it on too thick like you said. If you apply it extremely thin and let it sit for 8 hours, it should remove the same as if you let it sit for 2.

ok, thanks for the clarification. I just bought two tins of M16, waiting for them to get here so I can try it out.

As thin as you possibly can, you'll never have to buy any more M16 again, two tins should last you your entire lifetime haha

I frequently apply wax (NXT) in the afternoon / evening in the garage and then don't remove it till the next day. The longest I've left the wax on is about 36 hours.

I've had no issues removing the wax (in fact, I think it may be easier) and have had no other problems.

Just make sure no dust can blow into your garage and you'll be fine...

The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

                  That is a long time!!

I wait about 30 minutes to an hour.
But as mentioned above, you can not really leave a wax on too long

                    FYI:

How long do you leave your wax?

OK to leave #66 on overnight?

Re: Can you leave wax on for "too long"?

Thanks for the replies. I got home and it came off fine.

I guess my concern was that here in AZ garages can get hot. I should have properly phrased the question something to the effect of asking at what temperatures can the wax stay on the vehicle? It was applied when the vehicle was cold, and out of direct sunlight. Just the temperature in the garage can get warm. I think it was 102 today but I removed it before then.

If all 3 cars are driven then parked in the garage, WOW! I think it gets like 120 in there from the engines.
