  • Carbon Fiber - Dark spot

Where most people have the white haze on a carbon fiber hood (I also do)

I have one dark circle close to the middle, It's about 1.5 in x 1 in.

By the look of it, it can come out, but I thought I would ask to find out for sure.

I'd take a picture, but being that its really dark out right now and about to rain, I can't really.

    Any ideas, opinions

    Thanks
    Mike

Great name for this forum, and I'm not surprised the name "mike"-was-taken cuz almost everyone associated with Meguiars is named Mike

Yeah in the first 100 members of every forum, there is probably a 'mike'

Have you worked on it with any products so far?

Re: Carbon Fiber - Dark spot

The hood was perfect last year, now, the car sat outside for the winter, without a cover on, when the snow melted, I was left white haze and that spot.

So far the only things I have used (which I read from another thread here)
          is

          scratch x
turtle wax polish (I think its called)

          by hand, not buffer)

Re: Carbon Fiber - Dark spot

So, is your hood white in areas, then the regular color, then this dark color?

Or is the dark color the original color of the hood?

It is possible that you need to be bringing the white areas back to the darker color.

Re: Carbon Fiber - Dark spot

I never thought of it that way, it very well could be, the dark area is definitely like a spot though, its not like its fades into the rest of the hood

But yeah, almost makes me wonder

I'll have pictures up tomorrow hopefully

Re: Carbon Fiber - Dark spot

It is very common, esp for the general public, to assume that swirls and fading are normal. Even expected.

But that is not the case.

There is no reason that paint/surface cannot look perfect, (if you take care of it) unless the paint/surface physically is not capable of it.

It seems, just from reading the posts, that you expect the surface to look white, and maybe you ignored that part. Don't.

I would really try to find SwirlX if you can, and apply that over the entire hood. Even ScracthX is OK, but not the best. (You don't mean ScratchX 2.0 do you?).

No just regular scratch x and turtle wax polishing compound

                  Pictures tomorrow, raining hard today
