  • Starting from practically nothing

(I almost titled this "Starting from scratch" but then I thought I'd better not use that word.)

Because I've only recently launched out on my own, I have practically NOTHING in the way of car maintenance items. I mean, I have a bucket and a hose, but honestly, that's about it. To make matters more interesting, I have an extremely limited budget. I might possibly be able to swing about $50 of stuff at a time. I was thinking I'd start with towels, NXT wash, and a mitt, since getting it clean is probably the best first step. Alternatively, I was considering getting this kit as a good starter and then simply replacing things and buying additional items as I'm able. Any other ideas? Am I on the right track? How do I pronounce Meguiar, anyway?

Are you trying to start a Mobil detailing business from scratch?

    If so, read this first,

    Then purchase,

    Car wash
    Wash Mitt
    Drying towels
    Clay Kit
    ColorX
    Wax applicator pads
    Wiping cloths
    Glass Cleaner
    Tire dressing
    Quik Interior Detailer

The above will enable you to,

    Wash and dry a car
    Clay the horizontal panels
Clean, Polish and wax the paint in one step
    Dress the tires
    Wipe down the interior
    Clean the glass

That's a minimal detail and you can charge anywhere from $30.00 to $100.00 depending upon how well you do these basics and how well you sell yourself to your customer.

Always under promise and over deliver. Try to get referrals.

Do you have a business name? You need something that tells your customer what's in it for them. Keep is short, easy to spell and easy to remember.

Sounds like he just wants to clean his car..

And you say Meguiars like like it looks. Ever heard of Mark McGwire(Baseball)? You say it sorta the same way.

That's a little too ambitious for me! I was thinking I'd just like to know how to clean my car properly, and I've always thought the best people to ask about things like that are the people who really care about doing the thing. I might move up to keeping my parents' cars in good shape as well, but I thought I'd start with my own car. Hopefully you let amateurs in.

That clears it up; thank you.
