Spot Treating Microfibers

I tried a search, brougt back no results.

Do any of you happen to spot treat your microfibers when throwing them into your dirty clothes hamper or whatever holds your dirty towels? I had some come out the othe wash the other day, with a little residue left, and was just wondering if I would have spritzed some APC on them if that would have helped out.

I use 4 oz of white vinegar poured in during the rinse cycle, then I run the towels through a 2nd rinse cycle. Supposedly the white vinegar instigates a reaction in the microfibers that causes them to open up and release whatever is trapped in them. I don't know if that's what actually happens, but I've use this method with good results.

I think I have read that before, possibly from you. I would have to really pay attention to the wash so that I could get it in there in the rinse cycle. With rinsing twice, is there any lingering smell of vinager on them?

Not at all. I don't even notice it after the first rinse cycle. And I used to add it during the 2nd rinse cycle until someone mentioned that it should be added to the 1st cycle, and then run the 2nd cycle to eliminate any trace of vinegar. So even when I was doing it wrong, there was still no smell.

wow, i guess i went overboard on the white vinegar then this weekend, i put in a whole cup in the rinse cycle- i did not smell any vinegar smell on mine, but I really didnt smell them. maybe I will have to just to see if they do smell, but I think I would have noticed if they did.

I keep a bottle of Spray n Wash in the garage... my better MFs don't get near the grunge but if I get grease or something nasty on one of the junkers I use under the hood or in the door jambs I give it a blast before it goes in the rag-bag. I also do the vinegar thing occasionally to refresh.

Maybe not. I add 4 oz for a small washer load. If you're washing a large or an extra large sized load, you would add more.

I think I should be ok then, it was about 40 towels with a few drying towels mixed in so was a pretty big load.

I use Shout to pre-treat stains on my MF's that become stained. Seems to work pretty well!

I'm not to concerned about the grease, it was more of the build up of wax that doesn't seem to come out on some of the towels.

I sometimes have a soapy water bucket laying around while polishing/waxing to allow the heavily soiled microfibers to pre-soak before washing. This does not allow the wax or polish to cake on or dry and therefore is easier to remove in the wash.

I also pre treat my microfibers with shout. About every 3 months I rejuvenate them with the vinegar rinse.

Now for that, I use a 5 gallon bucket and soak the MF's overnight with a solution of Palmolive dish detergent.

I really gotta try this vinegar trick, When my MF looses itsplushnsess, I buy new ones.

I soak my microfibers in a bucket with a scoop of Oxyclean for several hours prior to washing. That seems to get everything out of them.
