  • waxing a new car

Is it just a myth that it would be a bad idea to wax a brand new car.

Because I've heard(from this board somewhere), that the factory completely cures the paint before shipping it out.

It's a 2010 BMW and I think it needs a couple coats of tech wax ASAP.

You can wax a brand new car whenever you want to. With a repaint you have to wait 30 - 90 days before waxing, to allow the paint time to cure and release its gases. But all that's already been done with factory paint, so feel free to wax your little heart away!

If I were you, I would apply a coat of glaze such as #07 under the wax for the extra shine since I'm sure you want your brand new car looking as best as possible.

If you're ever in doubt, check the door jamb of any new car. The date of manufacture is imprinted on that metal plate bolted to the jamb. Most "new" cars are already 3-6 months old by the time they reach the dealerships.

You will probably will want to clay it before waxing. You will probably be amazed at what you will remove even from a new car.

Thats the plan. My ADS order will be here this week. i'll have my grit gaurds, claybars, more applicators, and a few supreme shines. I'll be good to go.

I was completely shocked when I clayed my car - I drove it off with like 6 miles on it and even though it looked great, the clay told a different story.

                    Re: waxing a new car

I have to second, third, or fifteenth the suggestion to CLAY a new car finish. I just bought 2 new Hondas and thought the paint looked and felt fine. It did, compared to my previous 170k mi. Chevys. Yet after I applied NXT2 and started using UQD a couple of times, I felt surface contaminants that I didn't feel before. When most of the surface is smooth as glass, then you REALLY feel the bumps.

I finished claying the Civic and re-waxing it. It looks - and feels- great.
I am dreading working the Odyssey roof but I now know it needs it.

                    Cheers!
                    Richard
