  • Lexus LS 430

I'm down here in Virginia Beach visiting my mother. She has a white 2001 LS 430 Lexus. It is garaged and only has 50,000 miles on it.

It's in good condition, but it rarely gets washed and waxed. The paint was pretty dull. So I brought my G110 and some products down with me, and yesterday I spent the day working on it. I washed it and then spent two hours claying it. There were lots of tar spots to remove. I used my G110 and applied the ColorX. While I have used ColorX in the past, I have never applied it by machine. I worked it at speed 5 with polishing pad. I was unsure as to the best technique. Basically I did two passes per section.

I was impressed with the results. The ColorX removed some stains and even some scratches and brought the color back to life. I then topped it with NXT. I am very pleased (sorry, no pics). My Mom is pleased, too, though I think she was utterly shocked seeing me doing 7 hours straight of physical labor. Let's just say that I and physical labor have never really gotten along in the past.

The car has lots chrome trim, at least I think it's chrome. The wheels are chrome, too. What is the best way to clean and polish chrome? Also, between the front and back side windows, there are two strips of black trim. It looks like plastic, though I'm not sure. Is anyone acquainted with this car? I don't have time to do anything more with it this weekend, but I'd like to be prepared for my next visit. Thanks!

    Cheers,
    Al

    Nice Job!!
I bet she would be proud.
For Chrome, I would use Mag and Aluminum Polish.
I am not sure if you are wondering what to put on the plastic/trim, but if you are Trim Detailer would be fine, for what ever it is.

In searching through the internet, I have discovered that this model came with optional "laminated side glass." I suppose this is the special trim between the windows to which I am referring. Interesting. Or is the laminated side glass referring to the windows? I imagine the latter is more likely. Perhaps PlastX would be appropriate for this polished black trim. Or could this strip actually be painted?

I suspect "laminated side glass" refers to some kind of safety glass that the side windows are made of, but just a guess. I believe a windshield is laminated glass, for instance.

You can wash, clay and polish the chrome (assuming it is real chrome) like any other metal. If you wanted to use your regular products, or get the chrome specific products is up to you.

for the chrome I would use Hot Rims Chrome Polish and seal it in with either NXT 2.0 or M20 Polymer Sealant.

As for the trim, if its a painted surface, since you have ColorX you could use that.
