  • Clear bras....

Im seriouly considering getting a clear bra for my Armada...I just wanted to get some input on maybe some of the cons of getting one....Does anyone have any experience with them....I really want to protect the color of my paint but I really need to get some input before I drop $350
    thanks

    Re: Clear bras....

If you don't wash the bra as carefully as you would wash a show car then it will become filled with unsightly swirls just like your paint will become filled with unsightly swirls if you don't wash it carefully.

When this happens it becomes very hazy looking and then people join forums like this and ask how they can polish it clear again. If you're mostly concerned with preventing rock chips then it's a good pro-active step to protect the paint.

How do you take care of the paint on your Armada right now?

Do you carefully hand wash it or do you run it through a car wash?

i got a 3m clear bra on my civic si. Just treat it like you would the rest of the car (pending you are careful with everything)

if it gets some swirls, pour rubbing alcohol on the clear bra and it somehow covers em up!

to take car of it NXT 2.0 works well or aerospace 303 or both.

          Hats off to you!

Washing large S.U.V.s is a lot of work, especially the roofs...

Just wash the clear bra gently like would the car paint and it will look as good as the paint. Most people coat over the clear bra with whatever wax or paint sealant they're using on their car's paint and that can't hurt and probably helps.

            Re: Clear bras....

I've got a 3M paint protection film on my MDX. I paid more the 350.00 for mine (installed). Hats off to you if you can get a 3M installed for 350.00, but don't settle for anything less then the 3M. I've had mine installed for 4 months/12K (yes, I drive a ton - 30k a year). It's pretty resiliant. Rubbing alcohol was recommend by the installer to get out light scratches and swirls. I've yet to try that step. I've had a lot of luck with NXT 2.0. It covers the swirls, beads water, improves the shine & enables easier removal of bugs and dirt. Be cautious of high pressure washes & auto washes as they can cause the corners to lift. Same goes for buffers/polishers around the edges. Had apply the wax on the shield. If you do a ton I highway driving like I do, it's a great investment on a nice vehicle. Hope it helps.

I had the 3M installed on my new Ranger. I paid a lot less than everyone else; I had mine down at a Krown rust control dealer so it was about half the cost of a car dealer.

So far so good, I've had the truck for 4 months and have 15,000 kms and have a couple of chips on the front bumper and one of the front fenders but there isn't a mark on the 3M.
They never told me about the alcohol trick, but from what I've read the film is complete with standard automotive clear coat so it can be treated as you would regular paint (ie. wax)
What I like most about it is you keep the factory look of the vehicle (usually truck guys put on a plastic bug deflector)

                  Re: Clear bras....

Here is my comment since I have used both 3M and Avery brand.

3M: Thicker film (can see film edge more) Yellows over time Orangepeel look

Avery: Thin film (transparent) Very clear look Low orangepeel Easier to install

Cost is about the same, but I like Avery better for the thin film.
Clear bra can swirl easily. I often use a Meguiars plastic polish (small white bottle)
One warning with clear bra, over lengthy period of time removal will be hard and can leave residue.
