Some look like Type I and others look like Type 2

In theory, Type 1 is mineral deposits on the surface. Type 2 is etchings into the paint.

Usually, it all starts as a type 1, and if left on the paint longer enough (which could be minutes in some cases), it becomes a type 2.

Thanks Murr1525 for the quick insight!

I was wondering about that because I went to the dealership after detailing my car and i didn't know but they do a complimentary "wash"...basically hosed the car and drove out covered in water. It was hot in the sun that day...I was ticked... I cringe at the site of water spotting on my paint and worry when I go over it with a UQD the spots would be still lightly "embedded" :/
I had to rewash my car needless to say...

I think they are type 2 - etching:

            I tried white vinager (4% acidity - 3 minutes) : fail
            I tried lemon (1-2 minutes) : fail
I tried IPA (acohol 50% - spray and wipe) fail
I tried nxt wax 2.0 by hand: fail
I treid 3M auto shine by hand: fail

Time to try an abrasive polisher
