  • Help removing an odd stain

    Hi all!

Was hoping for some advice on removing something stuck on my car. I recently noticed some sort of tar-like stringy substance along the lower half of the right door. I was able to wash that off easily but found a few long blueish lines that just will not come off. I have no idea what it might be!

I've tried both the mild consumer clay and then the mild professional, but no luck. I also rubbed the area fairly vigorously with ScratchX, and while it faded the mark very slightly, it didn't remove it. What are some other products I might try? I'm slightly torn as I don't really want to compromise the paint by using something harsh. Not sure how thick the clear is that low down on the door.

    Thanks!

sounds like your doing everything right, maybe bump up to ScratchX 2.0?

Or even maybe Ultimate Compound if needed.

Thanks for the suggestions! Much appreciated! I suspect ScratchX would eventually remove them, as the places I rubbed for some time did show fading.

I read that the textured part of the lower panel on these types of cars (Honda S2000) is a sort of plastic. Maybe that's why the tar-like stuff only stained that part, but not the actual paint on the body? Oh well, it's not too noticeable!

The stains are on a textured plastic, painted white?

          Or is it white plastic?

I'm not sure! I originally thought it was just paint that was textured to protect against rock chips. I read on an s2k forum, however, that it was possibly plastic, but there wasn't a clear consensus as to whether it was plastic trim or more like a clear film over the paint.

Either way, using a paint cleaner on texture could be hard, but if it was paint, nothing wrong with trying.

But if it was plastic, you might want more of a plastic cleaner, like #39 or APC.

Then if it is a clear film, that could be a whole nother story, those kind of things can be a lot more sensitive.

Might want to call/visit your Honda parts department, collision center, etc... get some opinions on the material.

Good idea! Thanks! Drat, though, it didn't occur to me I shouldn't be using ScratchX on something potentially plastic. Hopefully didn't do damage.

I'd try M105 and a terry towel you might even have to go up to a 3M green pad and maybe repaint

I'm sure it didnt plastic much, but a clear film I'd be carefull with.
