  • Time for a rotary

Just wanted to share a disappointing experience with you guys. A friend of mine wanted me to detail his black Pontiac G6, the entire finish is covered in water spots and swirls. The water spots are etched into the finish. He had very high expectations based on how I maintain my vehicles and I was up for the challenge. He had not washed his car in about a month and when it was washed it was ran through automatic car washes. I worked on the hood and achieved ok results. About 80% of the water spots and swirls were removed greatly improving the finish but not what he wanted. I clayed the finish then applied 105, 83 w/ a DA and 8006 pad. I had to do this process twice to get the results. I tried the luggage lid which was heavily swirled and I was not happy with the results. I used the 5 speed setting then on the second pass used the 6 speed setting. I have a good feel for the DA so I came to the conclusion that I need a rotary. Any recommendations? Thanks, here are some pictures.

This is the after. It was difficult to get good pics as it was overcast

From what I can see, it looks great!
    Much better than before
A rotary would do a better and faster job
But your DA will work, I wouldn't use 6 speed, it's not recommended

      Re: Time for a rotary

      Thanks,

My friend thought it looked good but I did not do the entire vehicle because it would not have accomplished what he wanted. I told him as soon as I get the rotary and get the feel for it to bring it back. What better excuse to get the rotary?

That is a good reason to get a rotary
Do you know how to use one?
and don't ignore your DA it will work, just take longer.

            Re: Time for a rotary

I have used a rotary but have limited experience with them. I helped my pops detail a car a few years ago but it was an old school rotary. I do not even remember the brand. I am looking at the Makita and the Hitachi. I already starting the push ups and shoulder presses, haha.

              kewl!
Don't be afraid of them, just be gental
When I first used one I just grabed it and went to work, and never looked back
