  • Worst glass water spots ever.

Well, my new in-line hose water filter must have backfired. Badly.

After the wash, I dried all the water except that on the glass thinking I'll just clean the glass later anyway. Oh, and I have a car with no metal on the roof. ALL glass.

Anyhow, these satanic water spots are brutal. I even used a clay bar and it only had a very minimal effect. I guess I need a glass polish? From who? I don't have a power buffer. Can it be done by hand? Will it hurt the glass?

    thanks

ps- this wash was last weekend. Car is very dirty now. Dont bother asking for pics!

Re: Worst glass water spots ever.

I was an idiot last week and tried spraying down my car in direct hot sunlight, thinking if I drove away immediately, then there would be no water spots. WRONG! Water spots everywhere! I was worried that these wouldn't come off, but after I washed my car again a few days ago they were all gone, no clay bar needed. So maybe just try to wash your car if you haven't already to see if they'll disappear. GL.

Re: Worst glass water spots ever.

I've seen members use paint cleaners for their glass.

      Such as: M02, M80, M04 etc.

But be very careful with these cleaners/compounds as bad results could happen if you use too strong of a product and scratch your glass up.

I would start with least aggressive as possible or seek out a glass polish available at most PBE stores.

A razor could be handy too then clean.

When I rinse my car, I do the flood technique and have minimal spotting when I go to finish the drying part.

      Keep us posted.

I've heard that chrome polish works to remove water spots off glass. Never had water spots on my glass myself, so I haven't tried it, but you might give that a shot before you go out and buy something. Keep us posted!

I have had very good luck using #4 to remove water spots on glass.

Start out applying the product with a foam applicator. After you work the product and remove with a microfiber hopefully the spotting will be gone.
If not try again but this time apply the product using a terry cloth towel.

            Good luck.

The tried and true way for really bad spots is a rotary buffer/wool pad and something like M95. I guess you could try and test for something less aggressive, but I think glass is a lot harder than paint.

Not sure what #4 is off hand. Will have to look it up.

I haven't tried vinegar yet but we have some windex with vinegar at work I can borrow and try.

What about some Sonis ( I think that's what it's called) glass & chrome polish?

I have tried Mothers Chrome polish before on water spots and had pretty good luck. I saw it on a car show program on TV. Good luck. Don't forget to tell us what finally worked.

Re: Worst glass water spots ever.

#4 is the way to go. Dont make the same mistake i did. do a test spot!! Dont use a wool pad! And use very little compound.

Using #4 and a foam polish pad with rotary worked very well for me. I started with the wool pad first and after doing the second window i found bad marring was left behind. i switch to the foam polish pad and the window came out perfect. I finished with some NXT 2.0 and the glass looked awesome, very smooth and glossy.

Use lots of tape, I didn't do this but, use ALOT of tape taping extra over the paint around the windows.

Oh, and use very little compound, I didn't and look at the mess. All that #4 on the paint scratched the paint when I washed it off. Gave me a reason to polish the paint againg I guess.

I recommend the Lake Country Glass Polishing Kit
It has a 4" pad, Cerium Oxide Paste, Rain-X and instructions
This kit will remove anything from the surface of your glass
Also, it's gentle and will shine your glass up nice

The other products recommended here will work but if you need something more aggressive use the LC GPS from ADS for $35 bucks.
