  • Use of Car Covers to Protect Finish

    Hello,

What does anyone think about using a good quality car cover to protect your waxed finish, while parked outside during work, etc.

Is it worth the effort and would taking the cover on/off affect the finish.

Any Ideas on a good outdoor weather-poof cover to use?

I'm thinking a good cover would help protect the finish over time, what do you think?

    Pros & Cons?

Thanks for any feedback you may have on this subject!

    Covercraft is a good brand.

But if it is going to go on and off a lot, and you gets ome dust on the car, now you are dragging dust and dirt around, swirling the paint.

I'd say they are good for longer term. I put one over my car when I was on vacation for about a month, and there was a chance of strorms coming through.

Re: Use of Car Covers to Protect Finish

        Check out these threads,

Good morning, Like a 'wax' not all car covers are created equal, and that is my questions and my problem. I have a very red 2006 VW GTI MkV and I'm looking to acquire a car cover because it is outside 7x24. I have looked and the various advertisements in the back of Road & Track and Car & Driver, and have gone out

What are good ones to get? Is any of them actually worth the cost? It would be used if my truck ever has to park outside anymore. Or are they just a waste of time and money?

Anyone have any suggestions on car covers for heavier duty protection, like from reasonable sized hail, or a small branch, etc. I have been browsing the Covercraft website, since the ysound like the best, but not sure if the regular would be thick enough, or the HD cover, or one of the other fabrics? Re: Use of Car Covers to Protect Finish

I actually negotiated a free Honda car cover when I bought my Accord last year. I've never used it. I don't know how I could remove the cover by myself without scratching the roof. I initially thought it would be a good idea to have one to put over the car when I have to leave it in a airport parking structure when I travel - to keep it from prying eyes and discourage break-ins. Now I'll probably eBay it just to recover it's $200 value

Just my personal opinion, I think they are more practical for long term storage. Not everyday use. In the time it takes to put it on and remove it every day. You could probably do a quick detail on the vehicle.

I have a Covercraft Noah cover for my Dakota. When I was using it, I did see scratches on paint from covering and removing it. It is just so big and really takes two people to minimize it dragging. Also, when I left it on the vehicle for an extended time (more than a few days) it truck needed dusting (i never did dust) after removing the cover. It seems the cover traps moisture and heating/cooling must cause some condensation. There was some transfer too from the cover to glass (maybe outgassing). That is, a just waxed truck would not look just waxed after removal unless you did a wipe down.
