  • claybar/cleaner wax question

I just picked up a meguiars claybar kit which comes with cleaner wax. Can anyone tell me where in the claybar process am I supposed to use this?
I plan on claybaring the car with the detailer, wash the car again and then use tech wax 2.0.

Should I use the cleaner wax before the tech wax or after or before the claybar?

The cleaner wax is in there as a sample as stated before. If you are going to clay there is really no need to use a cleaner wax. You can either move right into the LSP step or your NXT wax or use a polish after claying and before your LSP.

The description of the smooth surface clay kit as stated on Meguiars.com:
G1016 Smooth Surface™ Clay Kit. Removing above surface contaminants and restoring a smooth surface to your paint finish is easily accomplished with Meguiar's® Smooth Surface™ Clay Kit. Our non-abrasive clay bar safely, easily, and instantly removes paint overspray, fallout, environmental contaminants and more, making waxing easier and more durable. The Smooth Surface™ Clay Kit provides the best performance and the best value with a bonus Cleaner Wax sample and a full-sized Supreme Shine™ Microfiber in every kit

I would suggest using a polish before your NXT to maximize your results.

      DEEP CRYSTAL® SYSTEM POLISH

Which can be very easily found at almost any auto parts store.

      Hope this helps

I used the CLAY BAR Kit on an EXTREMELY GRITTY '01 Tacoma, then used the cleaner wax just to make sure there was no residue left then the Gold Class wax. The result was so amazing the next day I did my wifes '05 Maxima. I also did part of my '78 Apsen (has not seen wax in decades) with the same results, NEW PAINT JOB! The only problem now is that I am like a drug addict....I am hooked and can't stop CLAYING and WAXING......I even told my older son to bring his '02 Mustang home so I can do his car, heck I might go do my neighbors cars for fun.....lol.

do not let the polish dry. According to the links and post Mike P has made for Meguiars, the only thing that should be left to dry or haze is their waxes and sealants.

All other compounds, polishes, cleaners should be worked in and removed while still a little wet. Not completely dry. Will just make it harder to remove

                Re: claybar/cleaner wax question

Mustang Guy, the use of the Cleaner Wax is optional. Whereas the claybar removes above surface bonded contaminants, the Cleaner Wax effects a deeper, below surface cleansing of the paint, while leaving behind a layer of protection. If you choose to use it, you would use it in the order suggested above by Mat:

                1. Wash
                2. Clay
                3. Cleaner/wax
                4. Wax - Nxt 2.0

Cleaner Wax is a good maintenance product. See this article: In Praise of Cleaner Wax. It's definitely a product you should consider incorporating into the regular care of your vehicle. You won't need to use it every time you wax, but it would be good for your car to use it a few times a year, particularly if you are not using any other paint cleaners (e.g., Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner [which unfortunately is becoming increasingly difficult to find at local stores]) or abrasive polishes (e.g., SwirlX). Good alternatives to Cleaner Wax, within the same product category, are ColorX and M20 Polymer Sealant. ColorX is readily available at local auto stores; M20 usually needs to be ordered online.

                Cheers,
                Al

Claying cars is like shooting hoops. Make a game of it, see how many cars you can clay in a row, in an afternoon, on your street. Now you know the same dark secret that drove those shoe-cobbler elves in all of those childhood fairytales!

I presume you are asking about Cleaner Wax. Using a foam application, massage it into the paint like you would rub a skin lotion onto your skin. Allow it to haze (use swipe test). Remove with a clean microfiber towel.

Yes, the polish should be applied, and more like massaged in gently. Not really rubbing it in hard. Then wipe off.

You can maybe cover a panel, or half a panel before needing to remove.
