I've never experimented at all with drying them in a dryer... I guess it might be ok....

I'll have to test some scrap and see what happens...

Any shrinkage on a cover could completely change the fitment...

Well given that most all covers I believe are synthetic materials, I can't imagine any shrinkage that would be noticeable really. I wouldn't use anything other than LOW as there was foam rubber involved with all the covers I've washed.

I have done this several times. But only on upholstery that "looked" durable. I have done a few Volvos and Hondas. I have even done carpet this way. No shrinkage or loss of shape. On carpet the black underside might get a little tattered but it's under the carpet and nobody will ever see it.

I have only tried this method whenever I was DESPERATE. Either it works or I would be buying new seat covers and carpet anyway. But it has worked for me every time with fantastic results.

Never had to take carpet out, that I wouldn't have thought about being able to wash though. Glad to see it's not as unheard-of as I first thought. My wife doesn't think anything about it in helping me, as she agrees about the 'other peoples dirt' kind of thing like the poster above (and me).
