  • Megs #26

    Hello,

I'm going to wash my car tomorrow with Optimum No Rinse, and then I was planning on putting a coat of Megs #26 on top of my current sealant - Fourstar Ultimate Paint Protection. Anyway, I have the liquid #26. I was just wondering if my results will be MUCH better if I apply it via my G-100 on speed 2 with a W9006 soft buff 1.0 pad, vs. doing it by hand? Any thoughts/suggestions?

Lastly, does the #26 really make the darker colors with metallic "pop?" I used some on a bright silver 2007 Santa Fe, and I wasn't all that impressed... Now, I'm going to use it on a dark gray metallic 2007 Acura TSX.

Probably no more so than if you applied 26 by a $30 orbital polisher or even by hand. The DA will allow you to apply the wax quickly and evenly than by hand, but 26 is just a wax with no abrasive properties like a compound or cleaner polish, (nothing to "work" into the paint) so the gloss advantage by DA application is likely minimal.

Thanks man! I wll just apply it via hand tomorrow then. Do you think #26 will give some nice color depth and reflections to a dark gray paint color?

M26 is a pure wax, that means its a non-cleaning wax. Not sure how well it will work to apply it over the 4 Star product. You might be better off polishing the paint first to prepare it for fresh wax.

Speed 2 is pretty slow, makes it harder to move the pad over the paint. Try the 3.0 setting instead.

Machine always does a better job than the hand.

The word "Pop" is what people say when they've maximized the clarity of their clear coat so they can see the paint underneath easily. If the paint is a metallic finish then they can see the metallic flakes more easily.

It's all about making the clear as clear as possible through the cleaning and polishing steps and then choosing a quality wax or paint sealant to top it off.

Just what Mike said above. The darker paints will always pop more than lighter painted cars like silver and white simply because the darker paints provided greater contrast when light hits the clear coat. Acuras, like Hondas, have "pearl" paints (the deep little specks you see when the finish has been properly polished, sealed, and waxed). You will notice a greater dramatic difference than you did with your silver car.
