  • Volvo V40 Aluminum Rims

Hey guys, so I have been searching thourgh the products of Meguiars and found a product called All Metal Polysh (G-13005). It says that it will work on all wheel finishes, brass, copeer, silver, exhaust pipes, etc.

On a previous post, I asked if a my particular Volvo V40 rims would work on the Mag and Aluminium Polish (the response was "no"). SO... will the G-13005 work on these Volvo Aluminum Wheels?

Please reply back, I don't want to get the wrong product again...

    Thanks

If those are factory wheels, the ones that come on the car when you buy it, then they are most likely clear coated. That means you can treat them the same as the paint on the car.

Call you dealership and ask them what type of coating the wheels have on them.

The wheel is a 6X15" 77114 Spectra style wheel. It is painted dark silver (code 931). Treat this wheel as clearcoated paint.
You can not use G-13005 on it. Use something like ScratchX 2.0 and wax.

          Re: Volvo V40 Aluminum Rims

Products like All Metal Polysh, Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish and even our competitors metal polishes are designed for use on bare metal only. It is extremely rare that you find an OEM wheel these days that is bare simply because upkeep is too high, risk of damage too great, and the OEMs don't want the warranty claims. So even though the wheel may be advertised as aluminum or alloy, most all of them are either fully painted or polished and clear coated.

In the case of these particular Volvo wheels the shape even lends itself to some light machine polishing if you so desire. Should you eventually find some fine scratches in the finish from using a wheel brush or old towel to clean them, you can do wonders for the appearance with a good cleaner wax like Color-X, or even SwirlX, Ultimate Compound, etc and then hit them with your favorite wax or sealant.
