  • Yellow Cars

Just bought a new car (yellow). Within one week, it has small speckles all over (brownish red) . What is the best way to remove these annoying dots?

wash it, or pick them off with you nail, a plastic razor blade or credit card

Sounds like a clay bar might be a great choice. You might be seeing little bits of fall out or other debris that is embedded onto the surface of the paint and the clay will gently abrade that away.

I agree, the red dots could be embedded metals from the car being railed and what you may be seeing are the metal shavings rusting and showing up on your car.

A good clay and paint cleaner should do the trick.

I would definitely use the clay bar on it. Then give it a good coat of wax when you are finished.

They may be what is known as "artillery fungus". If you park near a mulch bed, you may get there (ask me how I know!) The mulch can shoot these things up to 20 feet and, after a few days, they're very hard to get off. I found clay worked as well as anything. You may need to use your fingernail on some of the heavier spots.

            Good luck.

When I got my 2002 Cobra (yellow) it had thousands of tiny red specks on it. They were rail dust that gets on the car while being transported from the factory to the dealer by railroad. They are little specks of iron ground off the wheels and rails of the train. All washing does it cause them to rust faster. I tried the fine grade of clay and it was taking forever. I spent over three hours just on the hood. Then I switched to red clay from ClayMagic. It is much more aggressive and got all the rust specks off the car in two hours, And they have never come back.

Yeah that sounds like rail dust and I had it on my 2007 Hummer H3 (white). Every spring I would have to clay it to get them off, but they didn't come back all summer long.
