  • Properly Cleaning a Headliner?

What is the proper way to clean a headliner?

    Shampoo sort of like carpet?

    A Dry Scrub?

    Etc?

What is safe, what isn't? What to use?

Just wondering, I've heard that using anything that could make it damp causes it to release...

What kind of material is it?
If it's vinyl, I'd use QID and a MF
If it's cloth, be very careful and use as little product/water.
You can make it sag or wrinkle, some headliners I wouldn't touch.

Press the headliner in a random pattern with the palm of your hand and check for separation from the roof before attempting any cleaning, especially on older cars. If you discover pockets of separation, you can try to clean around them or just try to clean them gently. Vigorous efforts to clean a headliner could cause pockets of separation to expand, possibly resulting in sagging or complete detachment.

I've used APC+ cut 10:1 on numerous headliners, old and new, with good results. I always blot and never scrub the headliner.

Just gotta make that initial judgement call on the condition of the headliner.

If you do just use a light touch with light products.

On my personal ones, I've spot cleaned with a damp rag, and then lint rolled the whole thing...

                Would just vaccuming hurt it?

                  Like the lint roller idea,
Ya, a vacuum with a brush attachment, used lightly will remove allot of dust and dirt.

Actually just yesterday i cleaned the headliner of a 96(i think) 4-runner using apc+(10:1) and a terry towel. But, of course, before tackling any headliner i always do a test spot.

Maybe i do have some mojo, but i think it's the little common sense i have that's kept me out of trouble.
