  • 105/205 review and questions

ike most with pc's, i was intrigued by the meguiar's and forum claims that 105/205 with a pc would work great. so here's a quick review...

tested 105/205 with a pc and the black meguiar's 2.0 7" pad on speed 5 as recommended on '07 audi. worked okay i guess--appearance-wise (the paint was already in good shape) but the pc overheated something fierce (first time that's ever happened). did the kb method of priming pad first (made sure to spread light and evenly on pad) with varying degrees of pressure when polishing but wondering if the 7" pad was too much for the pc...pc actually started smoking. waited a while and used 5.5 lc pads. worked a little better but pc still fought it. did 4 passes with the recommended ~30lbs pressure then lightened it up for another 2-3 passes.

did a side by side under flourescents but really couldn't tell a difference between that and my wolfgang 3.0 tsr/final finish polish. oh well.

normally i use 4" pads with the pc but everyone (including the vendor) said try the 7' 2.0 soft buff pads...

oh well, just bought the sample sizes of 105/205 so no big investment (just can't help myself to try something new).

would love to hear some feedback from anyone who's had similar experiences. i'm guessing there's a simple explanation...

This sounds like a problem with a failing PC unit- not sure what you are asking though in terms of what you are seeking opinions about.

    Product performance? Or machine failure?

just that the pc has never acted that way before...its only a year old too.

so, not sure if its product, pad size or what...

well my pc7424 will be a year old in December, hope mine doesnt behave that way.

I use mostly the 5.5" orange LC pads, but have no problem with the 6.5" white, black, blue pads, and 4" pads

Well I really am not sure what to say, other than you might have a unit failing by random chance. MANY members here and detailers everywhere use 7 inch pads on their PC 7424 or G100 without it affecting the life of the unit.

I myself have a G100 that is now in my friend's possession with 7 inch pad use and no problems. The G100 is about 2-3 years old, too.

I use a PC with 7in pads. I do think the machine has problems turning the pads but not enough to over heat and smoke. Ive been using the pads for about a month and no smoke in site and the PC has been in use for probably a year, right about now.

Have you considered maybe taking your PC into a shop to oil it?
