  • Spring detail question

The weather is finally warm enough to do a post winter detail (about 40 to 50 deg f ) here in Canada.
I have a black Dodge Dakota.
I have washed and clayed and tomorrow plan to do #83 followed by #7 Show car glaze and then NXT 2.0 . I will then wait a week and top it off with #26 Hi-tech yellow wax to give it a nice glow.
My question; is the #7 show car glaze redundant after using #83.
Does #83 have oils and fillers in it like #7 .
    Thanks for your help.

Given that you have a black vehicle, you may find that #7 adds a little extra wetness and gloss.

#83 has lubricating oils. Don't most polishes? You may find this article of interest: Does ScratchX have fillers?

I wonder how well #7 really does hide defects. I've heard different reports about #7 in this regard. It's interesting to note that there are several glazes out in the marketplace that are promoted for their defect-hiding abilities (e.g., Poor Boys' Black Hole and Chemical Guys' EZ Creme), but as far as I can tell, Meguiar's does not make this claim for its pure polishes.

FYI: M80 is often used as a finishing polish after M83.

Do a test spot with the above combo and make sure you're getting the results you're looking for, that is do a small section with the M83, then apply the #7, after wiping it off apply the wax, let the wax dry and then remove it and now inspect.

      TEST SPOT

      Doing A Test-Spot

Before going over the entire car, see if you can make just one small section look good, that is apply the product you're planning on using over the entire car to just one small section about a foot squared or so. Work it in and then wipe it off, then apply the polish, work it in but not as much as the compound because now you're not trying to remove paint, just spread the product out, then immediately wipe it off, then apply the wax and let it fully dry and then wipe it off.

Now inspect our results. Make sure you can make one small section look GREAT before going over then entire car. If you can't make one small section look GREAT you won't be able to make the entire car look GREAT.

      Make sense?

      It should look like this,

And if you're having any problems, the post back here after the test section and we'll help you tweak your technique to insure you get it right

Thank you for the replies. I did 2 test panels on each side of the hood and had my wife and son evaluate them. I ended up doing the 83,80, NXT. It looks great. I'll do the #26 next weekend.
