Well so much for my resolve to wait on this purchase.

I just placed the order with ADS for the backing plate and a clay bar replacement kit. Opted for a Black Finishing pad for the freebie.

Just to clarify...

W64DA (original red DA plate) = 4.87" OD

W67DA (yellow DA plate that comes with G110) = 4.75" OD

W68DA (New all black DA plate) = 5.93" OD

Oops! I thought the guy at the show told me that the stock backing plate was 5.75". But he did demonstrate that the stock BP could work with the new 2.0 soft buff pads. Sorry for the mix-up

W68DA (New all black DA plate) = 5.93" OD

The new W68DA is tailor made to enhance the buffing feel and finish results when used with Meguiar’s Soft Buff 2.0 Pads. They work. The original backing plate is the same diameter as the new WD68A (5.75"). I bought my G110 directly from Meguiars last Saturday at the Del Mar Nationals show, and they slapped one of the new 2.0 pads on the stock backing plate when I asked the same question, and even included a free pair of 2.0 pads with my package.

Yes, it's available again. I just placed my order. I was going to wait until payday so I could place a large order and get another free bag. I think I better get this while the getting is good. I still have a large order to place on pay day, could always use another bag.

Yesterday the ADS site it would be available Wednesday. I checked today (Tuesday) and they are already sold out. I guess it came in early. So back to waiting.

There are other places to shop ya know. I've said before on MOL, you can beat Rick's prices hands down (per item and shipping costs) but it will hard to beat his customer service.

Also, do these backing plates fit 6.5 inch pads? Considering the G100 bogs down with a 7 inch pad, I don't think I'll be making this purchase.

The WD68A is the same diameter of the rigid backing plate that came with my G110 (5.75"), so it should be able to handle to 6.5" pads, but I'll defer to more experienced and informed opinion. And you can always beat anyone's price if you look hard enough. Amazon usually waives shipping, so if they offered the WD68A (and that's a big "if" if you're an early adopter), it would undoubtedly be cheaper. But ADS really sweetens the deal by offering a free pad which has obvious value to a newbie like myself who owns a grand total of 3 pads, but not so much to you guys who buy pads by the case.

This is the new WD68A Backing Plate.

It is very nice.

I like the flexibility of the outer rim. Should make buffing and polishing curves and indents a lot easier

Yeah, I have to agree. $38.90 for a backing plate is way to much. Especially since I have all the pads I need right now. I'll wait until I can pick one up without paying for shipping.

But only if you order it by itself. Pick up a few other items and the cost of shipping per unit drops, plus you still get the free pad, needed or not. An excuse to buy even more cool stuff!
