What are you working on?
Do you already have some products to use in mind?
(To briefly answer the question, if you polish, you always want to follow with a wax on anything except fresh paint which shouldn't be waxed right away). -

Read up! Tons of great availiable information.
I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.
I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
