  • Using a clay bar after touch-up spray paint?

Hi, I just applied some touch up paint and a clear coat to my vehicle, in spray can form. If I use the Meguiar's clay bar to clay my vehicle, should I worry about it taking off the touch up paint? The instructions on my spray can say to wait one month before waxing. So if I wait one month before clay baring, then waxing, do you guys think it will be safe?

    Hi Brandon!
Claying only removes contamanates on the surface of the paint.
It has little abrasives, nothing that will go into your paint.

This is so the paint will cure.
If you seal it with a "wax" the gasses can't escape.
If you want you can always use a pure polish on uncured paint.

Well, if the paint has a rough lip or edge at all the clay might catch it.

I have VERY limited air brush experience, but I could see hypothetically from the work I did that a clay bar might remove something on freshly sprayed paint if it is in the middle of the panel and doesn't go all the way to the edges of the panel. The key being the edge that the clay might catch.

      Make sense?

Either way, might as well play it safe and not clay or wax that area for 30 days.

Yeah, I wouldnt want to rub on the area for a while.

On the spots i have fixed with dabbing in touch-up paint, I have stayed away for at least 30 days. Then when I come back, I dont seem to have any problems.
