  • Pics from the 9th Annual Del Mar Nationals (presented by Meguiars)

I visited the 9th Annual Del Mar Nationals (living in San Diego, Del Mar is only 20 minutes from me on the I-5). It took three times as long to get into the Del Mar Fairgrounds as it did for me to drive up the freeway. One hour in bumper-to-bumper traffic, a total of may three miles from the freeway offramp. I was tailgated the whole way by a huge offroad truck with wire grates over the headlamps and a huge rolled steel bumper. If this guy tapped my bumper, it would have been major scratch damage.

At one point I could have pulled over to the left and parked in the overflow lot, but the lot is all dirt and the haze of dust was very evident. I had just wiped the car down the same morning with Last Touch and it was looking too sweet to drive through a dust cloud. I would just endure the crawl and park in the fairgrounds asphalt parking lot. So what happens? I pay my $9 parking lot fee and am promptly directed under a pedestrian bridge to (ta-daaa!) the dirt overflow lot

Meguiars had a really sweet display set up at the far end of the fairgrounds. None of the MOL Mikes were there, or at least they weren't when I arrived in the afternoon, but Megs had all of their products out for display and for purchase. Although I initially went hoping for some Megs freebie goodies and handouts, I ended up purchasing an irresistable G110 package Megs had put together especially for this show (more on that in a separate thread).

Anyway, here's the pics. I would have taken more, but my SD card filled up.

Nice pictures!! I couldn't make it out there today but I'm going to try tomorrow morning before work. I need to change the oil and bleed the brakes in the Liberty first but I might do that right now.

Now go back tomarrow (cus I can't make it tomarrow either!) and take 3 pics of every car and post it!

Yep. It's John and I only provided a small thumbnail of all the cars that were there. I would guess that there was up to a thousand show cars and custom hot rods, both in the pavilions and outside on the promenade.

Guys, if you can make it to Del Mar this Sunday, definitely go. Meguiars was selling all of their products at their pavillion, many at discount with NO SALES TAX!

I bought their G110 bundle for $199 and another $30 worth of products, and what I saved in sales tax alone basically paid my admission fee and part of my parking. What I saved by buying the bundle was phenomenal! I probably saved another $50 on top of that!

But go early! The crawl to the parking lot was mindnumbing.

I think it might be a late 40's or early 50's Mercury, custom chopped and lowered to be a lead (pronounced led) sled

BTW, I didn't see a single show car outside the Meguiars pavilion that didn't have swirls or need some obvious paint help. Target rich environment, guys!

I just re-ran the numbers by checking the retail prices on Meguiars website. If you include tax, I bought over $355 worth of products today for $230, so I actually saved $125 off retail. Definitely get out there. The show prices are about 10% off on average for all of their products. Ask for an itemized receipt (something I forgot to do) if you want to apply that Meguiars coupon that Mike Pennington posted on MOL last month.

I want to go now! I live an hour away from Del Mar, but at school in LA I'm two hours away and I don't have the time to run down tomorrow. Lucky You.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                      Remove swirls my friends.
