Okay, I have been wondering this question ever since I started detailing my car. What is the differnce between meguiars waxes?? I mean I went to the local auto parts store and for meguiars waxes (I don't use anything but Meguiars) they had gold class,nxt,medallion,deep crystal carnuba,#26,#16. I am trying to figure out the differnce between all of these. Isn't there only so much you can do with wax. I know there are synthetics and carnuba but which do I choose. It is very hard finding the right wax. I have a white car by the way. Can someone please help me out here... Any help is appreciated

Here at Meguiar's we are often asked why we have so many products? A variation of this question is, "Why does Meguiar's have so many waxes?"

Here's the answer:

Over the years, we have developed some very unique and highly specialized waxes that have attained their own following of loyal fans. All of the waxes Meguiar's manufactures are exclusive formulas, each offering the end-user its own unique features and benefits.

Two people with identical cars with the identical color and type of paint may prefer different Meguiar's waxes according to… what looks good in their eyes.

Who are we to argue?

What's more important is that you, our valued customer, know that whichever Meguiar's wax you choose, you can rest assured that you're getting the very best wax money can buy, not only in appearance results but also in protection results.

For that reason, it can be hard to recommend a specific wax because we're all individuals. Typically, we can share information about each of our waxes, and then let you use the product and make up your own mind.

If you're not 100% completely satisfied with any Meguiar's product, just return the unused portion to Meguiar's along with your receipt and we will gladly refund you money.

Sometimes, it's just a matter of experimenting with our different waxes to find just the right one that best suits your particular set of circumstances as well as your personal tastes. Some things to consider when choosing a wax are the environmental conditions in your area and the amount of time you are willing to invest in waxing each year.

All new cars, trucks, and S.U.V.'s require a non-abrasive wax that is safe for clear coat paints. All Meguiar's waxes are non-abrasive, this means Meguiar's waxes contain no ingredients that will abrade the paint or instill a scratch.

You can safely use any Meguiar's wax on any new car's finish and easily produce excellent results. That said, some Meguiar's waxes are more suited for a finish that is new and in excellent condition, while some Meguiar's waxes offer a light chemical cleaner for finishes in less than perfect condition.

A finish in new or excellent condition would benefit more from a Meguiar's polish/wax or pure wax because they don't contain any chemical cleaners and instead offer a more concentrated blend of polishing oils and protection ingredients.

A finish that has been neglected, or is a few years old, would benefit more from a Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax because the non-abrasive chemical cleaners will safely and effectively clean the surface by removing contaminants producing a more clear and glossy finish. Remember, your end results are always determined by the condition of the surface to start with, and the prep work you do before applying a protective coating. If your finish is severely neglected, you might consider using a dedicated paint cleaner before applying any wax.

Here is list of all Meguiar's waxes and the unique characteristics each wax offers.

Pure Waxes – Pure waxes are an excellent choice for new cars, trucks, S.U.V.s, new paint jobs, cars that have been well maintained, or cars whose finish has recently been professionally detailed.

Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax – This pure synthetic paint protectant will do more to increase optical clarity, shine and gloss, while providing the best protection against attack than any other wax on other market.

Polish/Waxes

Cleaner/Waxes

Because daily drivers are driven daily (thus the term), and are often parked for at least part of the day, if not all the time, the finish is constantly under attack. WOW, That was quite a post. That is exactly what I was looking for. That cleared everything up . I have one more question. What would be the best wax to use on my car?? It is a 94' camaro, and unfortunantely it is white. I know with white it is hard to get good depth and shine. So what wax would you recommend for me to use that would get the maximum depth and shine out of my car??

Hi 94gpse,

I would recommend NXT Tech Wax. First wash the car, the evaluate the finish. Do this both with your eyes and the clean palm of your hands. Feel for bonded contaminants. If you discover them, then clay first.

If it's been a while since you've used a paint cleaner, then I would recommend applying a paint cleaner like ScratchX over the entire car. Then apply two thin coats of the Tech Wax and your car will glow

Yesterday, after looking through my stock of various waxes I came across a bottle of gold class that was still half full. So I got some deep crystal paint cleaner did the whole car with that and than put on the gold class, and I can't say how happy I am with the results. The car Shines beautiful and has the "glow" you spoke of. I ran up to rite aid today at about 7:00 p.m. when it is just starting to get dark, and when I came out the car was glowing white, it looked incredible . I would recommend to anyone with a white car to use gold class. Thanks again for the help.

Okay, now that winter is rolling around (snow flakes within about 2 weeks) I need to prepare my car for the winter seeing it is a daily driver. Would cleaner/Wax work as a good protectant for the winter months? Right now I have a coat of #26 on my car. If I were to use cleaner wax over the #26 would I have to use paint cleaner first or would the abrasives in the cleaner/wax take the #26 wax off??

The cleaner wax would prob remove any remaining 26. Why not use the cleanerwax than top that with the 26?

The cleaners in Meguiar's cleaner waxes are non-abrasive in that they won't scratch and scour your car's finish like the typical abrasive most people think of when you use that word.

The cleaners in Meguiar's cleaner/waxes will remove most of the #26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax already on the finish. It sounds like you maintain your car regularly and if this is the case, then the cleaner/wax should be sufficient to clean and prep your paint for a new coat of a wax product that contains more and better protection ingredients over what a cleaner/wax offers.
