  • arrrgh Corvette clear!

    this is what i started with

    So i used some Ultimate Compound on an lc orange pad and got this

    it looks alot better with the exception of the haze from going aggressive.
    I tried swirlx with a white polishing pad and did nothing for the haze, so i tried UC with a white pad and took a little more of the haze off, but nothing significant

    This is frustrating me, anybody got some tips for me? I've read that corvette thread three times and still cant figure it out

    Try M9 or M80 with a finish pad at slow speed, like 3. That should get that remaining haze off. M86 with a finish pad at slower speed works too.

      i dont have m9 or 80, I do have 7 and 83 you think that might work?

        Ultimate Compound should work fine
        How's your technique?
        Right amount of product?
        Speed?
        How many passes?
        There's allot of variables to consider besides product choice
        UC is awesome and should do what you want

          It might also be that the paint itself is hazing from the movement of the DA buffer. Have you tried a rotary?

            M83 will most likely still leave micromarring. You could try it with a finish pad. It may be better, but probably not the results you will be happy with.

            Mark is right on with his thoughts on the Da motion on the vette paint, a rotary will also get the job done. Eliminating the Da motion with the rotary will get rid of the marring.

              In the past two years of working on my Corvette and that of my friends I can tell you the Corvette clear is one of those paradoxical ones that is exceptionally hard and at the same time very scratch-sensitive.

              What this basically translates to is using a compound/pad combination aggressive enough to remove the defects will also create marring and haze most of the time with a DA. As such I have yet to see anything be a true "one-step" product on Corvette clear...

              I haven't used the 105/205 combination of products yet, but many (including myself) have had success with the Wolfgang and Menzerna twins. We have found success in using the same compound with progressively less aggressive pads before moving on to a less agressive compound. We cycle through the pad/compound progression and it appears each stage benefits from the varied cut and leveling power.

              For example, starting with an orange CCS pad and Wolfgang TSR (Total Swirl Remover) then moving to TSR on a white CCS pad as your defect removal steps. Then move to the Wolfgang FG (Finishing Glaze) on both the orange and then the white CCS pads to remove the haze and induced marring. Final step would be the Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhacer and then on to your LSP of choice.

              Obviously that's a LOT of steps and work. I'm looking forward to the 105/205 combo cutting down on that process considerably. The truth is it's either the right mix of rotary/compounds and a professional hand or a DA with plenty of time. Once I get some firsthand experience with it next weekend I'll update you and see if we can't better your results some...

              Since you're working with limited materials at the moment and the white pad/UC combo took off some but not all of the hazing I'd go over it with the UC/orange pad combo to get out the last of the haze and then progress backwards to UC/white and then SwirlX/white. Should finish up LSP ready.

                Maybe get one of our yellow foam polishing pads and try it with either SwirlX or M205. They're not the same in aggressiveness but they are both lighter in their cut than M105 and UC.

                Also remember after you make your initial cutting passes, make a couple more only now light up your pressure.

                Don't buff to a dry buff either.
