  • Just waxed, can I clay?

Waxed with nxt 2 about 2 weeks ago but since then you guys have urged me to clay my new car for various reasons. Now I want to but can I since I just waxed?

Should I include a touch of Dawn in the next wax to negate the wax?

    Also, can you clay windows?

    thanks!

Yes you can clay a recently waxed car (assuming you wash it first) but it may be a good idea to rewax the paint afterwards.

No, having two coats of wax is fine. Just wash the car, clay it then rewax.

Yep, you can clay anytime you feel its necessary, and on a new car, its definitely necessary. You'll be amazed at what comes off of a 'new' car. They collect an unbelievable amount of contaminents in transport from the factory and from sitting on the dealership lots for months on end. My local dealership special ordered my truck straight from the factory, and I picked it up only hours after it rolled off the shipping truck. When I clayed it, I pulled off a ridiculous amount of bonded contaminents.

And remember, claying strips off every bit of wax on the car, so be prepared to rewax.

Exactly, clay is meant to remove any contaminants bonded to the surface of the paint. While wax is not a contaminant, it is still adhered to the surface of the paint, so it too will be removed with all of the contaminants.

Make sure to rewax. Your car will actually look better once you have clayed it and then waxed. Cleaning all of the contaminants off makes the surface smooth and thus gives a shinier and better appearance.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

          I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
          Remove swirls my friends.

            Good to know, thanks.

Now, all I need is decent weather.
