  • Detailing Plastic and Trim

Could someone please explain the difference between all of the different trim detailers and cleaners. I didn't realize how many different kinds there are. What would be the best to use for exterior detailing? Mirrors? Trim? Bumper? Luggage Rack? Door Handle Trim? Best to remove wax from the plastic trim?

    # 39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner

    # 40 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner

    Gold Class Vinyl/Rubber Protectant

    Gold Class Trim Detailer

    NXT Generation Tech Protectant

Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant

    Tire & Trim Dressing Gel

    Hi there.

For exterior I've had good luck with the GC Trim deatiler. I've had better results with All Season Dressing. It's sold in gallon sizes so that might be a bit much for home use.

For interior I've used #40 with good results. Nice low sheen not too shiny. Here lately I've had great results with Hyper Dressing. Again this is a gallon size product.

I'm not trying to push gallon products, it's what I'm using in my side detailing business. The detailer line products give me the results I expect and have a lower unit price.

As for wax on plastic you could try a nylon bristle brush to aid in removal. Some members stated that #39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner works pretty well with this also.

Good luck and hope this helps...

Thanks scrub. Yea, the gallon jugs might be a little big, but might split with someone, so that would help.

Is one going to protect better than the other? All season / trim detailer? Shine, looking new again? I want to keep the plastic looking good as long as I can, I am already having some problems with some other trim and don't want it to happen to everything else.

The inside I am using up some "other" stuff before I get some new stuff, but the Hyper dressing sounds pretty good, again, a bit much, but might split with someone.

I did the toothbrush thing, but still not able to get it all out. I know, tape in the future.

        Good idea to split.

Funny you should ask about how well the product protect. I called Meguiar's today about the different products #40, All season, and Hyper. All contain UV protectants. All do not have alcohol according to Nathan. I can't tell you which one will offer the best protection. I can only account for their appearance and longevity.

As for the Hyper dressing, it has very little cleaning ability but it seems to last a few weeks between apps. In addition there appears to be minimal dust collection.

Now for the toothbrush, you might try a nylon brush with more firm bristles. I use the brush from Wal Mart. Its $0.97. The bristles are blue.

Thanks again and keep firing away with the ??'s!

I keep hearing people talk about Hyper Dressing for their tires. In comparisson to the Endurance, if you have tried it, which one last longer? Which one is shinier?

For the trim, I am looking more for a protectant but still want it to look good. Anyone have any insite? If not I can call Meguiar's.

I think I can spare .97 cents for a brush.

I really like the endurance, my dad got me hooked on that stuff. I tried some of the spray on stuff, didn't like it as much as the endurance, but then again, I didn't let it dry long enough, takes a little longer to dry. The spray on foam is nice too, but doesn't last as long.

I've tried both and IMO Endurance is great. It lasts a long time. Actually I can't remember why I stopped using it. Now I remember I stopped using it because I'm tryinh to eliminate some extra single use products. I've also used the Hyper dressing. That also give good results cept it doesn't last quite as long. Still looks good. I think endurance has more shine due to how I dilute my hyper dressing. The hyper dressing is a low shine dilution.

As for protection the only info I can give is what I previously posted from Meguiar's.

The brush price was to help identify what I was talking about, since this is the one I've had good luck in using to remove wax residue. Not impling anything more. I do have a spare one I can send you for $0.97 plus shipping!! Just kiddin.

For #40 I have not noticed any scratch removal ability in this product. I have some #39, but haven't used yet.
