If you drive your car in the winter, you may want to call your local government agency that is in charge of salting the roads. You may find, that like were I live they use specific chemicals that can stick into the paint and cause those spots. I have found that where the "salt" spray goes thats where the spots show up most.

Before winter you may want to apply a few coats of NXT 2.0. If your car is kept in a garage, you should check out Optimum No Rinse for your winter washing needs. I personally use ONR all year.
ok i will have to order that sponge........you are correct the only place the spots are is where the salt had gone.... optimum no rinse huh how does that work wth salt and dirt all over ur car?

What is your preferred product to use with the Hi Tech Body Sponge to remove rail dust? A quick detailer? Soapy water? Something else?

I have used a clay lube, only because I have a gallon of it. Treat it like you would any clay.

Alright you guys convinced me to try a "mechanical" fix to this problem one more time.

Just bought the Hi Tech Magna Sponge. If that doesn't work I'll switch to the Finish Kare chemicals.

For one little sponge it's pretty pricey but if it works it will be worth it.

Its cheaper than buying professional clay.

I had this on my 2007 Hummer H3 and I knew a guy that had it on his 2006 Silverado. I had to really work the clay every spring.
I couldn't find anything else that would work on it.
The good thing was that it didn't come back all summer.

Re: rail dust - time for 3 part decontamination?

                      im back with a review!!!

after using the magna HI-TECH SPONG this is what i found........

Sorry meguiars i just found a replacement for removing raildust and tar that going to be a permanent fixture in my aresenal.....this thing works AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! at first i though it was the sponge part i was supposed to use ...but then figured out its the flat rubber part on the back of the sponge and the sponge is to hold lubrication in while your working this thing.....took off all my tar and raildust from places i could never get it off from before....so heres a list

PROS: removes railtdust/tar/above surface contaminants WAY EASIER THAN CLAY AND WITH LESS EFFORT WITH NO MARRING IF USED CORRECTLY!!
Sponge holds lube/soapy water just squeeze and remove!
fits in hand niceley good grip
if it is dropped just rinse and your good to go

CONS: On edges leves smears from the rubber ....a good rub with a MF and those dissapear though only downside !

                      GET ONE ASAP!!!
