how about an airsoft gun? It will prolly hurt them, like it would hurt us, but it wouldn't damage them it would scare the living digested material out of them tho.

I have started using mine today. Went to get it when it stated sniffing my wheels, missed it, but the sound scared the **** out of it. As much as I love cats, only up to a point though when they are ruining expensive cars, or spraying them. My downstair's neighbor has 2 cats, and I scared them enough I think to where they won't walk on the cars anymore (No loud music till 4 AM anymore, but now cats :S). However, I was wondering why my wheels where getting urine on them, no dogs around. Apparently, they are both males and spray. I have had also had the pleasure of not knowing the entire front of my Mustang was covered in cat spray until the duster made it there and covered the duster in it.... >:|

I have no other way of taking care of this except basically nailing it in the butt with an airsoft BB. From the distance I am using it at, it might sting a bit, but drive the point home to leave the dang cars alone and quit spraying and walking on them!\\

Did that to my cats when I lived at my parent's home too, they won't really go near the cars anymore except to run underneath them to ditch the pursuing dogs :P

What if you tried to offer them a better place to sleep? One of those cat houses with a heating pad inside. They might like that better than the hood of your car. Even a cardboard box with a drug store heating pad would do the trick.

my dad used to put moth balls in a little saucer and put it on top of the car at night. I guess it worked

I was having the same issue few days ago. I'm renovating my house and dogs are at one of my parents' house so neighbor's cats are running loose in my house compound. Quite often I'll get paw prints on the front hood and roof. I don't intend to stay up and wait for the cat and do nasty stuff to it so I put baits on the floor far far away from my car. Plus, I put some stinky moth balls on the car. So far no more paw prints.

I don't plan on having a stake out in my garage any time soon. The two cats are smart enough to not get on the car when we are around, obviously they know better.

Catching an animal (such as a dog) in the act is usually the best way to teach them a lesson. What worries me about spraying the cats with water or shooting with air soft gun is their initial reaction. I can already see all 16 claws digging into the paint of the car while trying to get away. Then again it might be the last time I have to polish out cat scratches.

I really would like to try leaving a citrus sent on the car to see what happens. But what to use? Citrus is acidic, which probably is not good for the finish.

I went to pledge.com and they have an orange scented furniture care cleaner. Info says it works on metal surfaces. Maybe I will have to try it.

Almost forgot, 3 years ago I built a loft in my garage for the cats, it's all the way up against the ceiling. So they have somewhere to go, they just choose to sleep on the car sometimes I guess.

If you're going to use an airsoft gun, just get a cheap one from Wally World. The cheap ones will just sting them, but it won't be enough to seriously hurt or injure them. I've shot squirrels with an airsoft gun and it's funny to watch them scamper away or jump 2 feet in the air when they get shot. Of course they're stupid squirrels, so they come right back when you leave. But I think a cat would get the message before a squirrel would and leave you and the cars alone.

I have three outdoor cats that love to run in the garage everytime the doors open. The only thing you can do is quickly close the garage door immediately after pulling in so they don't have time to run in. If they do run in, hopefully your garage doors have motion sensors so that the door will automatically stop if a cat runs inside between the sensors. That way, you know whether you need to be on the lookout for cats or not.
