  • Finishing my paint job.

Hi all, I have searched the many threads but haven't been able to find one that answers my question. So if you can help or point out an existing thread, it would be greatly appreciated.

About a month ago, a sprayed my rear bumper, boot and a spoiler to suit my 98 magna. I sprayed in acrylic white and followed up with a few coats of acrylic clear. It came out not bad and it looks and feels fairly glossy, just off the gun. The parts are now on the car, but I am unsure what to do from here. Straight to a good polish or buff or what? Thanks in advance for your help!

    Re: Finishing my paint job.

If you have orange peel, runs, or dirt in the paint finish you may need to wet-sand and buff. If not you might only need to polish and wax.

This forum is an excellent place to learn how to do these types of jobs.

    Good Luck

      Any pics?
It it looks good then just wax it
You can wet sand to get the paint level and remove any defects
Then wool pad and M105 to remove wet sanding marks
I just posted a thread on wet sanding

Thanks for the advice. It does have a bit of "texture", i think you would call it orange peel, but it is still glossy. I'm guessing I have to now buff the clear until its smooth?

Ideally, you will want to try and match the texture to that of the rest of the car. Factory finishes have texture, or "orange peel" to varying degrees.

You will likely want to wet sand your newly painted pieces down some, then buff them out to restore gloss. It can certainly be a daunting and risky task if you have no experience with wet sanding, or serious defect removal with buffing machines or products.

          Do you have any experience?

Ha ha, no experience. Its seems so glossy. It would be scary to have to sand it and try to get it back again!!!! I will get some photos to show the level of orange peal. I guess the acceptable limit is up to my personal opinion in the end.
