  • Out of practice...help!

Hey all, I know I've been gone a while, but I just needed a break from it all.

The monster in question is a late '04 or early '05 Accord with black??? paint. I seriously underestimated this car and the interior... leather seats & vinyl surfaces, but not the headliner or carpet took almost 9 full hours.

The paint is much worse than I thought and now that I've started buffing on it, I'm getting a blue tint and metal flake showing up. I'm still on the learning curve for SwirlX (seems to be good stuff though) and I picked up some #21 to try...don't tell the wife, I still have a full tin of NXT 2.0.

I've spent the last few hours on this thing and it seems like I'm barely making a dent in the scratches & swirls...I even tried some #1 Med Cut Cleaner thinking I could deal with removing hazing, but no dice there either. What is this Honda paint made of???

Of course, I started buffing when it started to get dark out so I had to move into the garage under a couple of 500w halogens lights & we all know how forgiving they are...

EDIT: Oh yeah, is there any problem putting on a pure polish, then applying the #21 without removing the polish residue?

    back Don.

What machine do you have? Pads?

I just got some Ultimate Compound and it seems to work great either by hand or others report by DA. My bottle was defective but when I tried it by hand, it took the swirls out of our '05 Neon with two passes and follow up with SwirlX. My bottle seemed to turn watery by the minute and when I started up again, the cut wasn't there. Got me a new bottle now.

If you haven't been reading, the new stuff of M105/M205 combo is slowly being the new M83/M80 twins. It's a new technology called Super Micro Abrasive Technology and is catching on.

I don't have enough personal experience to comment but what I have used by hand and messing around with my DA, it works great, just got a sample of M205, but haven't tried it yet.

Check the '09 reviews as lots of folks are using the dynamic duo or try the UC and SwirlX.

If you are using good techniques and swirl x is not working you might need a different product. You might want to try a more aggressive product like Ultimate Compound (consumer line). It all depends on the consition of the vehicle.

I have my stuff shipped to work and it's too late when I order it as she check with online banking (not on me, just in general) and she gives me that look when I order anything. She fears me on night shift as Ebay, ADS, Meguiar's all have stuff I want/need! I'm surprised she hasn't closed my paypal account!

As far as pure polish before M21, nothing wrong with that, it's an option but it's good stuff.
