  • Anyone ever top NXT?

Anyone out there ever top NXT with either GC or M26. If so, which looks better in your opinion. Was thinking about doing this tomorrow or Sunday.

    Thoughts?

I only topped NXT with NXT.....

you could try it and see how you like it.

if memory serves, folks would lay down a coat of M26 then top with M21 (21 similar to NXT, both synthetic waxes)to seal that.....

    You could reverse it.....

or try it like I said, you never know, it may turn out great on that red Silverado (edit, sorry get you and Carfire mixed up, may need glasses)!

        Re: Anyone ever top NXT?

if i were to apply M26 then apply NXT, wouldnt the light cleaners in NXT clean off the NXT i just applied on my Silverado

or am i making it too complicated?

I used GC over NXT 2.0 once on Crystal Red. It seemed to me to give a deeper finish?? Most of the time I just put 2 coats of NXT.

Probably too complicated, but I would think the #26 on top of Nxt.

Now, if it is Nxt 2.0, I dont know if you would want those polymers covered up....

I'm not 100% positive that NXT has cleaners in it. The only ones that do if memory serves is M20, M19, ColorX, M66 and obviously D151, I think GC has polishing oils in it but can't be sure

I have all sorts of waxes and enjoy them all, just don't have the time to experiment. I've been using M16 on our cars lately as it has held up through the winter.

I agree with Murr. What I said earlier was the wax of choice then seal it with the synthetics for that extra pop.

                Re: Anyone ever top NXT?

just to clarify i am talking about NXT 2.0

i remember Mike saying that NXT 2.0 has extremly mild cleaners and thats why GC or M26 wouldnt be topped with NXT 2.0 as it would clean the previous wax applied.

I would end up using UQW later on anyway.

But i am making it a bit too complicated

Thanks Nappers, good to hear M16 holds up good as well

I top NXT or 21 usually with 26 quite a bit, I really like the extra "pop" or whatever you want to call it that 26 adds. It does have a different look to me, more of a reflective look, where as NXT or 21 has more of a deep dark look. I would wait 12 hours or so though.

Thats good to hear, I am trying to go for the dark and deeper finish compared to a glossy or NXT look. Plus i would use UQW to get those Hydrophobic Polymer Technology properties back

                        Thanks Tom

I just applied two coats of NXT 2.0 a week ago. Tomorrow I am gonna wash my truck and use M26 on it. and the next day i would finish it off with Ultimate Quik Wax maybe. wasnt sure if M26 would add that extra "pop" or not but we will see tomorrow

                          Re: Anyone ever top NXT?

M26 is an awesome wax and it dries clear too boot. I use M16 on our cars lately (I think I said that earlier.....losing it) and I use M26 on the front of the Neon as it has little tiny rock chips in the clear and other waxes seem to dry white and hard to get that cleaned out, even after a final wipe down. At least they are more noticeable to me anyways....

The one I use the least is GC but still like it and thought of using it on our Yukon this next week as it's needing some TLC. The GC really pops on the Yukon (gold)

                            Re: Anyone ever top NXT?

I usually top NXT with 26 and I think it gives it a great appearance. The 26 add more depth to the paint. I recently topped NXT with 16 and found it to add not as much depth but made it a lot shinier. My car seemed much more reflective. I prefer the look of 26, but I'm using 16 for it's lasting protection.

It comes down to what you like. And the only way to try that is do it yourself and test it out.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                            I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                            Remove swirls my friends.

If you intend to top #26 with UQW, please let us know if UQW changes the #26 look.

FWIW, it seems to me that if one likes #26, then one shouldn't be topping it right away with UQW. After all, the whole reason you are putting #26 on top of NXT is to get the kind of look that #26 gives. Won't UQW give a UQW look? If yes, then why not skip #26 and simply apply UQW on top of NXT? But I'm all in favor of experimentation, so go for it!
