Orbital buffer waxing

Hey everyone,

i know orbital buffers are pretty much only good for putting down a coat of wax and i know that they are not real good for removing swirls or scratches. But do the microfiber bonnets swirl the paint up when waxing? the microfiber bonnets at Advance Auto or Auto Zone seem soft but do you think they will swirl the paint up? Would i be taking a risk by using it?

I am just curious

mine is not a mf bonnet but is a cloth like material.
So far I would say it did not swirl the paint.

But I have since switch to using foam bonnet for wax and paint cleaning application.

i never thought of using the foam bonnet, i wonder which would be better, the microfiber or foam. I am just curious to see how safe these orbitals are for waxing because my neighbor asked me this question the other day for his big Chevy Suburban. I told him he would be better of with a G110 but he insisted on knowing if the Orbital will swirl the paint, i guess there is a reason i am asking

I've used a few orbitals in my time and I've only used Terry cloth bonets.
Mf should be less agressive then Terry cloth.

yeah i wouldnt tell him to use the terry as i know that could swirl the paint.I think the foam would be a good choice for him but im not exacly sure if the MF would be better amd the biggest concern would be swirling the paint

Well, I have used it since I started detailing slightly more than a year ago.
I would say the condition of my car looks great.
Although is not in 100% condition but the swirls are greatly reduce by using obital with Megs product.

That is why I swear by Megs.

Bonnets really differ in quality. If you can, take it out of the package and feel the material.

The foam bonnets are all over the place. I bought one a few years ago that is equivalent to a cutting pad!

Terry bonnets can leave micromarring on certain paints. If you are really concerned, try a fresh terry towel and some swirl remover (your choice). If the surface does not have any micromarring, then there's a good chance the terry bonnets will work.

well i plan on using it for waxing and i know my local Auto Zone has the foam, MF, and Terry bonnets. I think i am gonna recommend the foam or MF bonnets to my neighbor. As for he the equivalant to the cutting pad, are you thinking of the wool bonnet they make?

If you have a chance and have a swirled out neglected finish to experiment on, maybe try a wool bonnet, or a terry cloth bonnet with one of our new SMAT products like M105 or UC and see what kind of swirl removal success you get.

With my experience with orbitals (when I first started detailing), I used MF for wax application, and terry for removal. I have since moved on to a Cyclo and foam pads.

If you have a chance and have a swirled out neglected finish to experiment on, maybe try a wool bonnet, or a terry cloth bonnet with one of our new SMAT products like M105 or UC and see what kind of swirl removal success you get.

While that is a good idea, i kind of was hoping you could tell me if the foam or MF bonnets would swirl the paint?

It's impossible to say if a product will work with a certain vehicle. The only way is to try it out yourself.

Why don't you buy some Meguiar's polishing and finishing pads so that you can compare them to the orbital bonnets? The quality of the bonnets differs so greatly that it's best to have an idea what a polishing pad should be like.

Ya, i am just gonna tell him to get the 9" foam or MF bonnet. I dont think anything bad will happen
