  • Couple questions

Im going to be detailing my car pretty soon
and i was wondering what products to use

i was originally gonna use the deep crystal system, but none of the stores around here carry it

all ive been doing is just using the cleaner wax on my car
and was wondering if thats abrasive or not? meguiars website says no, but people here say yes, so, so which one is it?

im wondering what products i should use for the following
    paint cleaner
    polish
and wax im gonna use either gold class or nxt 2.0

and im going to be claying it also, so would the clay bar make it clean enough to get by without a paint cleaner?

    thanks

    Re: Couple questions

    1. The regular red bottle Cleaner/Wax is going to have a very little bit of diminishing abrasives in it. It is really very mild.

    2. Where do you live? Perhaps you can order on line at least if nothing else. Here are the two processes I would follow with the products I like.

    1. Wash - 2 buckets, Gold Class, good quality towels, sponges
    2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit
    3. Clean - DC1 is a good mild cleaner. SwirlX is a bit stronger, but still ok for general use.
    4. Polish - DC2 is a good pure polish, but #7 Show Car Glaze is also a good choice.
    5. Wax - Nxt 2.0 is tough to beat.
    6. Wax - Two thin coats are best.

    OR:

    1. Wash - as above
    2. Clay - as above
    3. ColorX
    4. Wax - Nxt 2.0 is tough to beat.

    3. Claying and cleaning are two different things. Claying removes bonded on gunk. Cleaning removes the dirt from the pores/imperfections, and a strong cleaner can remove swirls.

Your applicator pad can actually jump over the bonded on stuff, and not remove it.

A12 Cleaner/Wax in the maroon bottle contains both diminishing abrasives and chemical cleaners, so it has the ability to remove a little paint through the diminishing abrasives but they are very gentle to the paint and when worked correctly they will remove defects but not instill them in and of themselves, that's what Meguiar's means when it states the product is non-abrasive... it won't put scratches in your paint.

We've been creating polishes for paint since cars have been around and one of our claims to fame is that our products have been creating some of the most beautiful finishes on the most beautiful cars since we transitioned from the horse to the car.

Maybe, claying removes contaminants bonded to the surface of the paint, it doesn't remove swirls and scratches nor remove any contaminants embedded below the surface called deep cleaning, that's what chemical cleaner will do.

If the car is a daily driver, then over time the paint gets dirt below the surface and a good paint cleaner or cleaner/wax will loosen and remove the dirt embedded in the paint.

        Re: Couple questions

after browsing the forum a little more
i read that the cleaner wax is about teh same as the DC1
so could i just use that instead?
and since it has polish in it, could i skip that step

        so itll be
        wash
        clay
        cleaner wax
        Nxt 2.0

        would that work?

after seeing other people on the forum mess up with products
its a little nerve racking cause i dont wanna mess up my car

and should i wash and/or rinse after i use the clay, or between each step or what?

That will work just fine. This is a popular process.

No, you do not need to wash again after claying or in-between steps.

as what Akimel said it will work and I am one of them that uses this process regularly.

Just to note, there's only one or two threads that come to mind where someone made mistake and didn't get the results they were hoping for and I at least in one of those threads after a plethora of help was provided the member never came back?

                What's up with that?

Meguiar's products are well designed and when used correctly will give you professional results. If there's any question about how to use one of our products correctly then this forum and our Customer Care Hotline 1-800-347-5700 is here to help you.

Whenever you're using products you're unfamiliar with, or working on a car you've never worked on or maybe you're new to do-it-yourself detailing, then remember to always do a TEST SPOT before going over the entire car.

Cleaner/Waxes clean, polish and wax all in the same time and in the case of our cleaner/waxes they work great! That said, applying a dedicated finishing wax after using a cleaner/wax insures you maximize the layer of protection on the surface, plus in the case of NXT Tech Wax it should leave you a show car looking finish.

                  TEST SPOT

                  Doing A Test-Spot

Before going over the entire car, see if you can make just one small section look good, that is apply the product you're planning on using over the entire car to just one small section about a foot squared or so. Work it in and then wipe it off, then apply the polish, work it in but not as much as the compound because now you're not trying to remove paint, just spread the product out, then immediately wipe it off, then apply the wax and let it fully dry and then wipe it off.

Now inspect our results. Make sure you can make one small section look GREAT before going over then entire car. If you can't make one small section look GREAT you won't be able to make the entire car look GREAT.

                  Make sense?

                  It should look like this,

And if you're having any problems, the post back here after the test section and we'll help you tweak your technique to insure you get it right.
