I was just curious, my uncle is a painter and he just helped me buff my car last night. It's flawless thanks to his help and megiuars products. My question is, he told me that it's best to wax in straight lines so you don't create swirl marks? Instead of in a circular motion. Is there any truth to that? I have the meguiars da polisher.. Since that moves basically in circle motions.. Could that create swirl marks? What's the best way to wax in your opinion?

Re: Circle Wax vs Straight lines
If your pad is clean you should not be creating swirls.
Second, if you would have created swirls from circular motion, then you would have straight line scratches.
The point of going in circles is to make sure the coverage is complete and uniform.Joel

Re: Circle Wax vs Straight lines
My father taught me to go in circular motions when applying wax. Unless the applicator is dirty or the surface of the vehicle isn't cleaned/ prepped properly, you shouldn't get any swirl marks from going in a circular motion or a straight motion. I think that going in a circular motion helps evenly distribute the wax / sealant. That's the only difference (to me) that I would see between the two. Others on here will chime in fairly quickly for you.
Another thing, when breaking the dried wax (before the final buff) meguiars teaches people to go in a back and forth motion, and then do the final buff in a circular motion. Hope this helps.
