  • Which Meguiar's Product?

I am a longtime Meguiar's fan and user, just terrific products and I carry them with me at all times.

I have a 2006 Accord that I dearly love and keep it totally immaculate. I live in Florida but had to take a business trip to Ohio last January and and got hammered with snow and ice.

In an attempt to keep my car from looking like a snow drift, I "chopped" off the snow and ice with my windshield scraper. Now I notice some marks on my hood and trunk. Not dents but more like the paint was "burnished" from the chopping I did. Black marks on a white car is no good.

What would be the best product and best way to restore this damage? It is fairly minor but I can't stand it! Thanks!

Claying and SwirlX would be the place to start.

Thank you! I hate to post such an elementary question but I have never had this problem before.

Thr car is very clean and the paint in great shape. Should I just give this treatment to the hood and trunk, or do the whole car?

Chesney, I have a pretty good digital camera and will try to take some pics tomorrow.

The damage is not huge (maybe 8-10 spots, each a couple inches long, not deep) and the paint seems to be burnished for lack of a better way to describe it. I'm sure there's a product that can take care of this, I just don't know which one.

              Thanks for the help!

Clay and SwirlX is fine for the entire car (after washing of course). But Since yo uare worried about those areas, you would pick one as a "test spot" and see if you can fix it, before doing the entire car.

It is possible those spots may need something stronger, then SwirlX the entire car if you want.

Of course a few pics would be best though.

Thanks. I stopped at the store yesterday and bought Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. I just tried a few spots but it cleaned them right up. This is a nice product, it has some abrasive qualities but is very very gentle. Might try the SwirlX over the areas when I get done.

Ultimate Compound is actually very strong.... You probably dont want to do the whole car with it if you dont have to.

Yes I saw on the list that it is quite aggressive, but compared to other compounds I've used (like DuPont) it is gentle. Regardless, Ultimate Compound is a very nice product.

I think I'm going to get some ScratchX and go over some areas, then NXT wax. Does that sound about right?

                        Yes.

Apply a thin coat, allow it to fully dry and the wipe off using a clean, soft plush microfiber.

Let the Nxt Wax dry that is....

                            Good catch Matt,

ScratchX is a paint cleaner, so you apply, work the product and wipe it off immediatly.

NXT Tech Wax is a paint sealant, that means you apply, let dry and then remove.

                            See these threads,

Which products need to dry before removing?

Is it a wax? Or a paint sealant?

                              Re: Which Meguiar's Product?

Thanks gents. After spending hours upon hours reading through the forum I decided to go all the way and bought the clay kit and SwirlX. After I go through that (clay, detailer and cleaner wax) I might put on a coat of NXT which I already own and have been using.

I watched the YouTube video for the clay kit, that seems very simple and the right place to start. With the exception of the damage I noted in my original post (and easily taken care of with Ultimate Compound), the car is in beautiful shape, so giving it the full treatment should really produce what I'm after.

Thanks for the helpful tips, I do appreciate it!
