  • 6.5” or 7” pads better for G100?

I will be purchasing some new pads soon and I am trying to decide whether or not the 6.5” pads would be better suited for my G100 vs. the new larger diameter 7” pads. I like the idea of being able to machine wash the new pads, but if the new 7” pads are going to be less effective with the available power of the G100 I think I would rather stay with 6.5” pads.

I am curious to see what Meguiar’s and other users with hands on use have experienced with both the 6.5” and 7” pads via the old G100 polisher. Does one size perform better than the other with the G100 at defect removal?

    Hmmm, good points.

I think there are a ton of members who have used the new pads with the G100.

I have the G100 and bought some new pads, just haven't been able to use them yet!

Although I've only used the 6.5" pads with my G100, it only makes sense that a larger pad is going to put more load on the motor, reducing your RPM's and the pad's ability to effectively polish and remove scratches.

I'm sure that the 7" finishing pads would work just fine for applying pure polishes and waxes, but you might be better off sticking with the 6.5" polishing pads for use with cleaner polishes. I think the new 7" pads were designed to take advantage of the added power and torque of the G110.

Then again, wait for somebody who has actually tried out the 7" pads on the G100 to reply before you make your decision. I have the new pads, but like Nappers, I haven't used them yet lol.

Well if you have the time (and the weather cooperates), I would definitely be interested in hearing your thoughts on how they compare to the 6.5 pads with your G100.

          Thanks

Surely some of you guys have used the new 7" pads with the older G100 polisher.

Any preference for one over the other? Any opinions would be appreciated.

            Thanks

Well, I tried the new pads on my G100. I must say it does slow it down, enough so that I switched back to my older pads (I have one that I cut down from an 8" and it's about 6"). I am not very patient and time was strapped, but it did not seem to want to work.

On the other hand, I was using a product that was defective and I am getting a new bottle soon!

I will update when I get it and use it when time is better.

But so far, I haven't enjoyed it but don't regret buying them as I someday want a G110 too!

Re: 6.5” or 7” pads better for G100?

I wanted to add that I don't have the current backing plate to go with the pads, that may help!

So if I get the new backing plate (not available from ADS until April) I may change my mind......

6.5 to 7" isn't all that much if you stand them side to side. So, technique and patience. I like the washability part though!

Thanks Aaron, I appreciate the response. I had a feeling that slight increase in size may end up slowing it down.

I seen your post about the problem you was having with Ultimate Compound. Just last week I used Ultimate Compound via G100 on my buddies truck and it worked great. The liquid did not soak into the pad like was shown in the pictures you posted. I hope you get squared away soon.

                    Thanks again.

so, I am about to purchase the G110.. the 7inch pads wont slow the rpms down with the new g110? Is there really a big difference between the smaller and the bigger one.. Really? you can still do it very well with the bigger ones or does it really help to have the smaller ones

The new 2.0 pads were made with the G110 in mind I do believe.

I need more time with the new pads on my G100 to give a 100% answer. I was time strapped and wasn't dialing in like I wanted.....

I like them, I just await the new backing plates for my G100/Rotary for them.

If you are getting the G110, get the new pads with them. I try to get 2 pads for each product used on your car, 2 products on car= 4 pads. Pads saturate and you will need more than one for each car for each product. When I ordered my 6 pack of new pads, I ordered 1 cutting, 4 polishing and 1 finishing. I plan on getting more to add to my arsenal.

I only use the 5.5 Lc pads but when i was at a Megs class Mike did use the new pads with the G110 didn't see any problems

Im sure this has been said before but, what pad do you use for pure polish and wax? you wouldent need to use two pads on that for a car? or would you

I put my wax on by hand but you could use a 9 series pad (9207 or 9006) and use different pads for each product, one for the polish and one for the wax .
