Very true. The windshield will, over time, essentially get sand blasted and you end up with those very fine pits that do look very much like dust. Unfortunately, there really isn't much you can do to either prevent or correct it.

Not living anywhere near a beach or desert, can "over time" be in 2 years (bought new, only 2 years old)?

I've had my new truck for a mere 3 months and already my windshield is beginning to show the effects of sandblasting. It's happened to every truck I've owned, so it's no great surprise to me.
Automotive glass has likely become "softer" over the years and there's a ton of small debris flying all over our roads that we can't see, I guess!

yup happend to mine too i just smashed it with a hammer and got a replacement.........time to do it again
