is it as safe to use a sponge or a MF sponge as it is using the mitts?

The one disadvantage to a sponge is the dirt can get trapped in a cell, and possibly scratch/swirl the paint.

So then with my Microfiber sponge there is no disadvantage, as its completely covered in MF... if so then plus it was only 3.99

As mentioned by Carfire and mentioned on many forums, the abilty of the sponge to trap dirt particle and various contaminants mean that once the two bucket is used that that the dirt particle can re-appear causing scratches on the car...

I personally dont recomend a sponge, but then again i dont know much about Micro Fiber Sponges....

I LOVE THE MEGS WOOL MITT..

The viking mitts are very nice and to be able to buy them locally is a plus.

The biggest disadvantage to a sponge is that it doesn't have fibers to trap dirt and debris and pull it away fromt the paint like a plush microfiber or lambswool mitt does. This means that the dirt you are trying to wash off the paint can become trapped in the cells of the sponge, causing you to continually rub that dirt across the paint the whole time you're washing, which could lead to swirling. Even with the two bucket method with grit guards, sponges have a tendency to trap dirt rather than releasing it like a mitt.

Quality, plush wash mitts are much safer IMO because they have a thick pile to trap dirt and debris and pull it away from the paint. When you rinse the mitt in your rinse bucket, they tend to release dirt and clean out better than a sponge.

The fact that Meguiars only sells wash mitts now shows how they feel on the subject.

I suppose that's true. I'll have to look into new cleaning devices. I ussually used the MF sponge on the upper half of the car, and some old terry wash mitt that came from Mr. Clean to get the lower half and wheels. I want to get a gritt guard, and some new sponges, so we'll see. I just don't have any money

I think the only benefit of a microfiber sponge is the absorbency of a sponge.
But since the sponge is covered in microfiber it should be just like a mitt, and be fine, it is just that it hold more water/soap.

The discontinued GC Ultra Plush Chenille Pad is not really a sponge. Its in the shape of a sponge but it has the same material as the Meguiars Wash mitt that is sold now. It also is very soft and glides across the paint

So some people are saying that the mitt and sponge would work the same but the sponge will just hold more suds and water...is this true or is using a mitt still the most effective way??
