  • Waxing a new car

Just purchased a new Chevrolet Malibu, Summit White w/clearcoat, my question is - is it okay to wax a "new" car or does the paint need to cure?

It's fine to wax a new car. You need to wait to outgas or breath when it's been repainted so you can go and wax that new car.

And congrats on the new purchase!

      Hi:

After spraying the paint at the factory the part is run through an oven to dry and cure the paint. So, any factory applied paint does not have to cure.

So get out there and put some wax on it.

No need to wait. I would second the need to clay the Malibu first before waxing.

          Congrats on the new car.

No need to wait as others mentioned, but I would also highly recommend picking up a Meguiar's Clay Kit and clay the paint AFTER you wash it, and BEFORE you wax it. This will aid the wax in bonding for a lasting effect, as well as improve the look and feel of the paint.

That is a great looking car. Keep reading the forums and keep it looking sharp. It makes the investment more worthwhile, when the car stays looking new .
