  • Used Swirl X on Dodge Truck. NEED SOME HELP

I used G110 6" White LC CCS Pad. I did 2 passes. Are those holograms on the corrected side?

Swirl X was a son of a gun to shake and to "pour" out of the bottle. I got some dusting after doing 2 left/right, up/down passes. What am i doing wrong? My work area was about 1 ft x 2 ft

Also, not a fan of the CCS pads. The product gets stuck in the holes and when i push down to release some, the panel i'm working on collapses in. Makes me waste product =[

Moved this into Detailing 101 since it was more about questions than a review.

As for the question, you will not get holograms from a dual-action polisher. At least not in the sense that you are thinking.

That to me looks like some marring.

You wouldn't happen to have anything less aggressive than SwirlX, would you? To test and see if it is product induced, or just that you didn't remove what was already there you could try something like ColorX.

Another option would be to use a less aggressive, finishing pad.

As for the dusting, that usually happens when there is too much product built up on the pad or panel.

I thought i did post this in Detailing 101. Oh well. Anyway, thanks for answering my questions.

What are symptoms of dry buffing and too little product?

Dry Buffing is when the product gets dry, sometimes the pad will drag, but it should be pretty obvious when you dry buff.

Basically, what you listed. The surface can become marred, and the product may dust or crumble. Also, pad hop is possible, but usually just with rotary polishers.

About how long would you say you are working the product (and on what speed) ?

Also, how much product are you applying to the pad?

              Maybe 40 seconds. Speed 5.

5 or 6 quarter sized drops on the brand new pad

I have not used my swirl x yet but am looking forward to trying it out. Is a toss up between that and M80 speed glaze.

My original thought was you did not work it long enough to break down the abrasives, but I think this polish does not use the deminishing abrasives, but the newer one (forget what it is called)

Im going to put a whole bead around the pad to start out with

Find a local PBE store and see if they care our W-8006 Yellow Foam Polishing Pads, if they do buy a couple. Now go to our local auto parts stores and find some Ultimate Compound and buy this product.

Now using the UC with the W-8006 on the 5.0 Speed Setting and rebuff the section on the left for about a minute.

How to apply product to the face of your foam buffing pads

Below is how to apply fresh product to the face of you foam buffing pad when first starting out and your pads are dry. After you break you buffing pad in by working this initial amount of product over a section of paint, you can cut down on the amount of product you're using as the pad will be less likely to absorb as much product as it will become damp with product.

                  Then inspect and take photo.

I dont mean to bash swirl x, but it's so thick that it wont come out of the bottle smooth enough to apply it to the pad like in that picture. It makes the fart-squirt sound and i have to shake it again to make more product come out.

I have UC but i didnt want to use it on this vehicle because there is alot of clear coat failure on the roof and the hood so i was worried the clear was too thin on the rest of the car. It's a DD so i wasnt going to get every single scratch out... especially the deeper scratches

This issue is being looked into, that doesn't help you right now though, sorry.

Another option doesn't work as well but you could take the lid off the bottle?

                        Makes perfect sense.

I'm not real familiar with LC CCS pads but as long as their white foam formula is similar to our yellow polishing pads that should work well with our SwirlX, you still might try repeating the process using a flat faced, foam polishing pad like our W-8006 and then check your results as pads can make a lot of difference.

If SwirlX isn't aggressive enough then you can try the new ScratchX 2.0 which is more aggressive than SwirlX but less aggressive than Ultimate Compound.

Another option would be to use Ultimate Compound with a finishing pad or use it with a polishing pad but only buff till the defect are removed.

I've read the white pads are similar to Meg's polishing pad. I dont reallly like the CCS pads so i will be getting some flat faced ones soon

                          Thanks for the help

Mine was thick, but I haven't had issues getting it to come out of the container by any means.

I would say mine is about the same as a thicker toothpaste in consistency.
