  • The 9,378th "Traditional 10' Polisher versus DA Polisher" Question.

Okay, after quite a lot of reading on here I have come to the conclusion that a Meguiars G110 is exactly the DA machine I need. However, due to current economics, it would not be the wisest money decision to make. When all is said and done I would probably need all the pads and gadgets and even in a kit that will end up being $200 or so. Maybe when prices or deals get better but at the moment it is not wise.

So I'm thinking I need to go with a 10" random orbit polisher. Costco has a decent one for $29.

I know the G110 can do everything, please help me understand what a traditional polisher is limited to.

Paint Cleaner: I need to remove water spots, both type 1 and type II, and remove some light swirl marks, etc. Haven't decided which paint cleaner yet, but I know I will have to do that by hand and that is fine.

Polish: Been using DC2, but I am going to step up to a Mirror Glaze product. Since I don't let the polish dry, it will be applied by hand.
And the polish will be removed by hand. The 10" polisher would be used only to give a pass over after the polish is removed by hand to ensure removal/even coverage. (This is where I will miss not getting a G110 because it could both apply and remove the polish. But, alas, again....economics)

Wax: Here I can use the 10" traditional polisher to both apply and remove wax, correct?

So basically I will only be able to use the 10" traditional polisher to give a polish between the polish and wax stage, and, to apply and remove the wax and give it the final polish, correct?

A 10 orbital is good for spreading wax- and that's about it. The new M105 says it is orbital approved, but you will be better of using that by hand than with the orbital for defect removal. The orbital just doesn't have the power to remove defects effectively.

See if you can line up a friend to do a full detail for $150~. I paid for my G110 after my first detail.

I honestly would save your Money for a G110!

You can get a really nice bundle from ADS for 150 Dollars, plus you get a duffle bag

the Orbital would really just be a waste of money, your better off applying by hand for now.

Here is the Link to a nice bundle:

Re: The 9,378th "Traditional 10' Polisher versus DA Polisher" Question.

Take a look through this thread:
Chris's keys to the orbital buffer (http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22517) Alright, I thought there should be some sort of guide for the orbital since there are so many written articles about the PC and rotary. So here it goes... Intro: Orbitals are a very simple form of a polisher. They are

There really is no need to make a second pass over the polish after you have removed it by hand. If you want, you can get another microfiber and wipe the same area down.

Orbitals say they can remove wax, but they really struggle. I would just use some microfiber towels to remove the product.

With the advent of M105, you should get some correction using the orbital. That being said, I think you would be better off saving your money. Sure, the price is $30, but you have to factor in the $30 worth of bonnets you will need. The money you save would help go towards the purchase of a DA.

Unlike most people here, I have used an orbital. From experience, I can tell you that it's best to save your money.

There are plenty of good products out that can allow you to correct more than ever before. Ultimate Compound, SwirlX, and ScratchX 2.0 can easily be found and offer the level of correction you might need.

Please don't buy an orbital just 'cuz it's 30 bucks.
(they're really no good. You can apply wax and maybe take it off at that's about it)

G110 is the best IMO and many others here
At least get a rotary, they also are cheap, but you can actually do things with it!
You'll be amazed at how talented you really are!

          Shop around for a G110.
I found one for under 99 bucks on ebay or somewhere
Heck, Nick is selling G100's if you want to go that route too.

Don't waste your money on a traditional orbital polisher. Nick Chapman has indicated that he is willing to sell one of his used G100 polishers, which has a lifetime Meguiar's warranty and a history of reliability. I'd contact him and negotiate a good price.

I'd put back a few dollars a month and save for a G110.

In meantime, just do your detailing by hand. You can still have a nice looking car.

Don't waste your money on a cheap orbital--not worth it at all. Before I bought my PC 7424, I had a cheap Craftsman orbital (I think it was around 50 bucks). Quite simply, they don't have the power to really justify their use. The only thing an orbital is good for is applying/removing wax, which a good DA will do as well. For what it's worth, I apply and remove wax by hand--I think it's just easier that way. Your best bet is to just save your money and buy a quality DA. Good luck!

Save your money till you can get the G110. The orbital is $30.00 the bonnets will probably cost around $10.00 thats a total of $40.00 your more then a 1/4 of the way to the G110. Plus the 10 inck bonnets will be to big for the G110. So that money will be wasted.

Just wait until you can get the G110.
