  • Ultimate Quik Wax (UQW) On Chrome Wheels?

I recently picked up Meguiar's UQW, and I love it. Amazing product--I'd buy it by the gallon if I could. I have a question about its use though: what do you think about putting it on vehicle wheels, specifically chrome ones?

I have a set of chrome wheels (coated) on my truck. My usual care method has been to polish them every few months and then coat them with a sealant. I have never topped them with wax for two reasons: first, because as we all know waxes aren't well-suited to the extreme temperatures which wheels are subjected to, and second, because the sealant I use is optically clear and therefore allows the chrome to really "pop." With UQW, though, I'm thinking it may be worth a try. I have it on my other brightwork (SS nerf bars and exhaust tips) and think it looks great. What do we say?

I'd say, go for it, i use it on mine when I am doing a wash going over the car with either UQD or UQW, they are chrome and it makes them slick shiney. Best thing, do one wheel, then compare it to your other wheels and see if you think it's worth it.

You're doing this as a maintence thing anyways right? Just adding a little pop during a wash...

It won't hurt them, the only question (like you pointed out) is how it will hold up.

So far, I have tried many types of waxes and sealants, and I haven't had much luck with it lasting.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm going to use Tom's suggestion and apply it to two wheels and see how it holds up. I'll let you know how it goes.

normaly on chrome wheel and rims i use sealent 2.0 or NXT wax. iam not sure how much temperature diference would be compared to a hood of a black car in the sun for 8 hours...i do the wax every couple of months and use UQW after washes.

I use UQW on chrome wheels all the time.

If you are just doing it for cosmetic reasons, than you fine.

Otherwise, for protectant, use the new Armor All

Here is another vote to go for it. I think it is a good idea.

The polymers in UQW are surprisingly durable, amazingly so for a spray wax product. While we can't say we've done any specific testing of this product on wheels, we can say that it stands up to much more abuse than your typical spray wax.
