  • Help!- Fine Cut Cleaner Problem

    Hello-

I love Meguiars! Been using them for over 20 years.

First problem I've ever run into. Bought brand new bottle of #2 Fine Cut Cleaner. Applied it with an orbital polisher and the appropriate Meguiar's pad. The stuff simply won't come off. Its almost like its glued on there. I can get some off, but now there is a haze with some rock like patches.

This is the 1st time I've used this particular M product. Was planning on moving on to #7 and then finishing with a wax. But now I'm stuck. What should I do?

    Here is what was done:
    - Cleaned car with M crystal wash cleaner
    - Applied #2 to the pad and started in
    - Waited about 5 minutes or so and it appeared dry, but wouldn't come off so I waited a bit longer.
    - Still no luck.

Have most of it off, but now there's a nasty haze and impossible spots to remove. Should I just move on to #7?

    Thanks!
    - Mr. Bill

Sorry- Meant to say that I planned on using #9 swirl remover as the next step.

    Thx

Do you have any Quik Detailer spray? I would lightly mist the area and then wipe off the product with a clean microfiber.

M02 Fine Cut Cleaner should not be left to dry. After you have finished working the product, go ahead and remove it.

What bonnet are you using with your orbital to apply the product? I always liked cotton terry bonnets more than the microfiber and foam ones that were available.

Like he said, NO product other than waxes or sealants made by Meguiar's should ever be allowed to dry on the surface.

An abrasive polish works by being pushed against a surface and therefor removes some of the surface in the process. When the polish sits and dries on the surface that action is not occurring. Make sense?

Now, as for removing it, as Quik Detailer is probably your best bet. You may also try a warm soap water wash.

If you can get Meguiar's Last Touch, I suggest it highly. It is my product of choice for removing dried polish or compounds.

Feel free to post any more questions about the procedure you may be unsure of.

Hi Chris- Thanks for the quick reply.

I used Meguiars Mirror Glaze Soft Buff pad to apply and Microfibre to remove.

Sounds like the problem was letting it dry.

Is there a way I can clean the slate (or paint ) and start over?

          Thanks!

            Not a problem!

I was assuming you were using an orbital...

Anways, the microfiber bonnets are really not meant for removing cleaners. They should only be used for removing protectants.

I would try misting a bit of spray detailer over the area and wipe it off with a microfiber towel. Or, you can really saturate the area if the residue is stubborn.

              Sounds good. Thanks.

BTW- I wasn't very clear. When I mentioned the microfibre, I meant by hand.

Thanks! I'll mist over and start again from the cleaner on.

                Ah, gotcha.

It may take a thorough soaking to get the product off it it's been on there a while.

Let us know how it goes.

I must be the invisible man!

As I posted right above, a wash with warm water if possible would be the safest method, followed by a spray detailer. I would go with a long rinse and soap soak first as any method that doesn't involve touching or rubbing the paint will be safer.

What about applying DC1 Paint Cleaner to the surface? Wouldn't that gently remove the dried-up polish?

Akimel, you remind me of something I learned in a formal matter from Mike Phillips: "Like dissolves like."

Applying a fresh application of fine Cut Cleaner to a SMALL area and then immediately wiping the old and new product away should also work.

Re: Help!- Fine Cut Cleaner Problem

I have exacly the same problem.
I used Fine Cut Cleaner on my car. I worked with oscilating buffer.
One side of the car mostly worked out perfectly, clean and shiny although there were few minor spots that I could not wipe off residue of (cloudy/dark grayish spots) Fine Cut Cleaner.
The problem started on the other side of the car. I applied the product to the whole side of a car, then when it dried I was could not to wipe it off 100%. I was able to get rid off white residue but still was left with this cloudy dark gray spots...
Looks terrible. Tried wated with soap, thinner, nail polish remover. Nothing works.
Any ideas how to get rid of this?
                            Thanks.
